The best of Poland's unique wildlife, vast wilderness, classical cities and historic castles This trip offers a superb balance between history, scenery, culture and wildlife to give a complete picture of Poland today, as well as insights into its glorious past. In two weeks, we enjoy five UNESCO World Heritage sites including the wonderful cities of Warsaw, Torun and Krakow. We take a trip to the beautiful Baltic coast and explore Poland's unique wilderness. We spend two nights in most places, giving plenty of time for exploration and relaxation. the Wawel Castle. 14 Free day with optional visits to Auschwitz, Wielickza Salt Mine or Ojcowski N.P. 15 Fly to London. Three countries, two of Europe's finest cities and excellent walking in the spectacular Tatra Mountains The scenery in Central Europe changes rapidly from expansive plains and dramatic cityscapes to dense forests and jagged peaks. There is a great diversity of people, culture and architecture throughout. The High Tatras, part of the Carpathian Range, are a group of rugged granite mountains forming the border between Poland and Slovakia. There is a sophisticated network of footpaths in a wellmanaged national park where we enjoy three full daywalks. Depending on the date of travel, we start in either Prague or Krakow and travel east or west during the week. The longest journey from Prague to the Tatras (or vice versa) is done by overnight train, using first-class sleeper compartments. Profile: travel by private bus and overnight sleeper train. 3 days walking (all optional). Grade: moderate. Group: min. 7, max. 16, plus leader. Min. age 16. Itinerary: Day 1 Fly to Warsaw; short orientation tour. 2 To Torun, the birthplace of Copernicus; free afternoon. 3 North to Malbork Castle; continue to Gdansk. 4 Free day to explore, or optional trip to Baltic coast. 5 East towards the Polish Lake District, via the fantastic castle at Frombork. 6 Full day to explore the Mazurian Lakes, either by bike, foot, canoe or boat (all optional). 7 Travel to Biebrza N.P., Europe's largest wetland area and important sanctuary for wildlife. Itinerary: Day 1 Fly to Prague. 2 City tour and free time in one of Central Europe's most picturesque capitals. Overnight train journey to Poprad. 3/6 Transfer to Stary Smokovec in the High Tatras; three daywalks in the High Tatras plus one free day; optional trip to the walled town of Levoca and spectacular Spis Castle. 7 Morning transfer to the beautiful city of Krakow; city tour and free time to explore the old town and market square. 8 Fly to London.
