A unique combination of walks along stunning coastal paths, ancient mule tracks and lush green gorges Crete's southwestern coast offers outstanding opportunities for walking in dramatic scenery, discovering remote coastal villages and exploring the legacies of previous civilisations. Travelling on foot, by local ferry and road we visit the spectacular gorges of the Lefka Ori Mountains including the famous Samaria Gorge, and walk along the dramatic E4 coastal path. We stay in three contrasting locations, each with a unique style and ambience. We start in the small but lively seaside resort of Paleochora and then move on to the picturesque fishing village of Loutro. We finish the week in the charming old harbour town of Chania, with time to explore the old town and markets. Marmara. Option of returning to Loutro by boat or on foot. 7 Transfer to Chora Sfakion by ferry and on to Chania. Afternoon free to explore. 8 Late morning to Chania airport; fly to London. Profile: 5 days walking at low altitude, but over rocky terrain. Travel by local ferry and taxis. Reasonable fitness required. Grade: moderate. Group: min. 7, max. 16, plus leader. Min. age 16. Accommodation: 7 nights small hotels. Food: all breakfasts, 4 picnic lunches and 6 dinners included.
A hidden gem - wonderful walking, remote villages, charming coastline, delicious food and a wealth of historic interest Evia is a walker's delight, with old stone paths connecting quaint villages tucked away on the slopes of the mountains. We visit Roman quarries and aqueducts, Byzantine churches and Frankish castles, and end the days swimming and snorkelling at deserted beaches and coves. Traditional tavernas and waterfront ouzo-meze shops make eating and drinking here a wonderful experience. A walk down the famous Dimosaris Gorge is perhaps the highlight of the week, ending at the coastal village of Kalliani. All walks are optional, between five and eight hours in duration and are of moderate grade.

Itinerary: Day 1 Fly to Athens; transfer to Evia 2/7 Five guided day walks and one free day. Optional visit to Athens on the free day. 8 Morning free; afternoon ferry to Rafina. Fly to London. Profile: 5 days walking at low altitude, some rocky terrain. Travel by bus, ferry and taxi. Grade: moderate. Group: min. 6, max. 18, plus leader. Min. age 16. Accommodation: 7 nights hotel. Food: all breakfasts and dinners included.
TRIP DETAILS
Itinerary: Day 1 Fly to Chania; transfer to Paleochora. 2 Transfer to Azogires village; walk from Azogires to Anidri village, descend to Anidri Beach via the Anydron Gorge; return to Paleochora on foot along the coast. 3 Drive to Aghia Irini Gorge; walk to Sougia. Option to swim or visit the ancient site of Lissos by boat (time permitting). Return to Paleochora by ferry. 4 To Aghia Roumeli by ferry; time to explore the lower reaches of the stunning Samaria Gorge, returning to Aghia Roumeli. Ferry to Loutro; afternoon free to explore village. 5 Walk E4 coastal path from Loutro to Chora Sfakion, via the lovely Sweetwater Beach.
