frica is a perfect destination for the discerning family; from north to south there is immense diversity. For history, Egypt transports you back in time to when Pharaohs ruled. For a more active adventure, both Morocco and Tunisia accommodate the High Atlas Mountains offer gentle walking for everyone in the shadow of towering, jagged peaks, while the vast open space of the Sahara offers both action and tranquillity. Sub-Saharan Africa offers nature of unimaginable numbers and scale on the vast plains that stretch south of the desert. The majority of our trips use direct flights from London and no African destination has more than a 2-hour time difference from the UK, so your family should be raring to go from the minute they step off the plane.
Africa & Middle East
Wildlife is what sub-Saharan Africa is famous for and is a huge draw. For sheer abundance, head to Kenya or Tanzania during the wildebeest migration. At other times of the year, East Africa is one of the best places to see lions, rhinos and giraffes. Namibia offers dramatic desert scenery and Etosha's busy waterholes. A true wilderness experience awaits in Botswana and Zambia, where you can spend time in some of the least visited National Parks. South Africa is a unique experience and as we travel the stunning Garden Route with its beautiful beaches and verdant vineyards, we find fabulous wildlife, both large mammals and coastal creatures - penguins and at certain times of year, even whales. Accommodation is a highlight that we pride ourselves on in Africa and all will be of an excellent standard. In Namibia, Botswana and Tanzania we use full service camping: moveable tents with thick mattresses and all the work is performed by our excellent camp staff, just bring a sleeping bag! The sites we use are all very well maintained and in excellent locations. In Etosha we camp right by waterholes so you can sit and watch the animals well into the evening and can fall asleep listening to the `sounds of Africa'. There may be the odd wild camp with no facilities, but this will only add to the sense of adventure. In Kenya we stay in fixed camps. Basecamp, a very special eco-camp is situated in one of the best spots in the Masai Mara to see the wildebeest migration during July and August. The tents here are fixed with thatched roofs and verandas, a little bit of luxury in the middle of the bush. This camp also works very closely with the Masai people, a wonderful cultural experience for your family. When not under canvas we stay in excellent hotels and lodges across this wonderful continent, most of which have swimming pools to cool off in after an adventurous day. Our luxury beach resort on Zanzibar and our well positioned chalets on the edge of the escarpment overlooking the Kruger National Park are just two examples.
