T
his is an active itinerary suited to an older family who want a gentle introduction to walking in the High Atlas. Only a short drive from Marrakech and you can be truly immersed in Morocco's rural culture, and we spend four days here enjoying the varying scenery and the kind hospitality of the Berber villagers. Our walks take us through dry but cultivated terraces and lush green pastures with the jagged mountains rising high into the distance. This is also a wonderful opportunity to spend time with rural communities. We pass through small farming villages learning about their traditional way of life, spending each night in a village house experiencing true hospitality. After the peace and quiet of the mountains we head to Marrakech to see another side of this diverse country.

The Itinerary
Day 1 Fly to Marrakech. 2 Transfer to Tachbibt where we
have an afternoon walk to the village of Ait Zitoun. 3 Full day trekking through pine forests and along the river bank to the village of Ait Ahmed. Some easy climbs. 4 A trek through some of the most traditional villages in the valley, including a visit to the water mill in the village of Imi'n'Tala. 5 A morning trek descending towards the valley of Amizmiz. Return to Marrakech after lunch. 6 Morning guided tour of Marrakech with afternoon free for private exploration. 7 Free day in Marrakech to explore the bazaars, relax in the Majorelle Gardens or take a caleche ride round the city walls. 8 Fly to London.
TRIP TRIVIA
The traditional dish of Morocco is couscous. It has religious and symbolic significance and is traditionally eaten at the end of birth and wedding feasts. Traditionally the tiny grains were rolled by hand from ground wheat.
