he jungles and mountains of Peru were home to many civilisations whose ancient cities and sites are still being discovered. Our three-part itinerary starts with an expedition deep in the jungle of the Amazon Rainforest, a remarkable area of wilderness and wildlife. From there we head to the popular city of Cuzco and the varied attractions of the Sacred Valley, where we take several gentle hikes. Finally we visit Machu Picchu, the Inca city stunningly situated between the Peruvian Andes and the Amazon. Only rediscovered in 1911, it gives a fascinating insight into the remarkable Inca people.

Flights via Amsterdam with KLM. Accommodation 11 nights hotels, 3 nights jungle lodge. Swimming fresh water bathing in the rainforest, hot springs at Machu Picchu. Transport minibus, boat, train and 3 internal flights. Group min. 4, max. 16, plus guide. Food all breakfasts, 3 dinners and 4 lunches included. Reality Check big time difference, some long travel days, some of the trip at high altitude. Amazon is low risk malarial area.
The Itinerary
Day 1 Fly to Lima. 2 Morning
free to recover from flight. Afternoon city tour. 3 Fly to Puerto Maldonado; transfer by boat deep into Tambopata Reserve. 4/5 Guided jungle exploration by boat and on foot. 6 Boat to Puerto Maldonado; fly to Cuzco. Transfer to Sacred Valley. 7/9 Three days to explore Sacred Valley including Pisac Market, Ollantaytambo, local weaver, visit to the Rainbow Centre and a spectacular hike with llamas. 10 To Machu Picchu with option of day walk on Inca Trail. 11 Visit Machu Picchu; guided tour of site. Return to Cuzco by train. 12 Guided tour of Cuzco and surrounds including Sacsayhuaman Fortress. 13 Free day in Cuzco. 14 Fly to Lima. 15 Free time to shop or just relax; evening depart. 16 Arrive London.
