Our commitment to responsible tourism
At Exodus we have always believed in three simple guiding principles for the way in which we want to travel: · We realise that every destination is someone else's home. · We should leave places as we would like to find them. · We should ensure that communities benefit from our visit. We have won several awards for our long-term commitment to responsible travel as it is a subject that runs through the core of our business. Our efforts were again rewarded last year, when we were declared the winner of the highly esteemed British Travel Awards: Environmentally Responsible Travel Company. When you book with us you can rest assured that your tour is helping the local communities that it visits and is designed with the environment in mind.
Tourism is a Force for Good
Tourism is one of the most important and largest industries on the planet. It also employs more people worldwide than any other, with millions of families relying on tourism for their daily needs. At Exodus we believe that our type of small group, off-the-beaten track tourism can bring benefits to many communities, help preserve the environments we travel to see, and provide real and positive social exchanges. Benefits can be obvious in parts of the developing world where the income we provide can mean the difference between economic survival and poverty. However, even in Europe, tourism can help stabilise rural communities by providing much needed employment and give powerful economic reasons to preserve rapidly shrinking natural environments.

And what about Carbon Emissions?
It is generally acknowledged that high carbon dioxide emissions are leading to "global warming" and that flying is one of the most carbon intensive and fastest growing ways to travel. What can we do about this? Well, to stop flying completely could have devastating effects on the millions of people worldwide who rely on tourism. Imagine if no one visited the great game parks of Africa or chose to seek out the magnificent Bengal Tiger. How long do you think those animals and their environment would survive? So what can we all do? We offer our customers the opportunity to offset the carbon emissions element of their flights through an arrangement with the Tourism Industry Carbon Offset Service (www.ticos.co.uk). TICOS is supported by UNESCO and the World Commission for Protected Areas due to its development of projects which make a significant contribution towards reducing CO2 emissions. We currently offset all staff travel at Exodus, and if you wish to do the same through TICOS, details can be found on our website www.exodus.co.uk/carbon.html
