Life on Board
Our expert leaders and staff have made hundreds of Polar voyages and bring aboard a diversity of interests including zoology, Polar history, geology, ornithology and ocean sciences. Our informal education programme during the crossings highlights their knowledge and expertise. Activity and Adventure
The Polar regions are among the last wildernesses on earth and command a level of preparation, flexibility and respect not encountered elsewhere. The programme of itineraries and activities is designed to maximise your time with an adaptable approach. No two voyages are the same. Wildlife weather and ice often affect the itinerary and this adds immense interest to the expedition. We also like to pioneer new destinations whenever possible. Clinical day-to-day schedules typical of cruise ships are meaningless to us. Days will be busy but will also give time for quiet reflection.
Optional Activities
Sea Kayaking is a different and equally thrilling experience, frequently paddling through a centimetre of porridge-like brash ice, threading between the 'bergs for unequalled views of the wildlife. Experience helps but it is not essential, fitness however is and the activity must be arranged when booking. Camping is unforgettable - you bring the sense of adventure, we provide the gear! (Polar bears determine that this is only possible in the Antarctic Peninsula and normally not on the first expedition). Hiking and Snowshoeing - during most stops you can join the hiking groups for exploratory walks or some of two hours plus.
