100 Asia I India & Sri Lanka Darjeeling, Sikkim & Kanchenjunga India 16 days Approach to Kanchenjunga Highlands of Sri Lanka Sri Lanka 15 days Grade: B Grade: C Adam's Peak A spectacular short trek to the foot of Kanchenjunga - the world's third highest peak With valleys ranging from only a few hundred metres above sea level to some of the highest peaks of the Himalaya, the tiny state of Sikkim has incredibly varied scenery. This trek passes through thickly forested valleys and tea estates to the alpine pastures beneath Kanchenjunga (8598m). From our high base camp at Lake Samiti, there is time to explore the surrounding glaciers and ascend the 4940m Goecha La for superb views of the immense ice cliffs of Kanchenjunga's southeast face. After the trek there is time in Darjeeling, the most spectacular of all the Indian hillstations, set amongst tea plantations and connected to the plains below by the famous Toy Train. 15 Drive to Bagdogra; fly to Calcutta. 16 Fly to London. Profile: 8 days point-to-point walking with full porterage. Altitude maximum 4940m, average 3800m. Grade C. Group: min. 5, max. 16, plus leader and appropriate local staff. Min. age 18. Gentle walking through mountains and tea plantations Sri Lanka is a natural paradise, an island full of verdant mountains, dense forest, gushing waterfalls and ancient cities. We walk amongst the famous Knuckles Range's unique montane forest as well as the hills and tea plantations of Dalhousie. We also make the ascent of lofty Adam's Peak, in time for its famous sunset views. Hidden amongst all this dramatic scenery are ancient Buddhist cities as well as the lakeside city of Kandy. Acclimatisation day with walk to Lam Pokhri Lake. 10 Walk through glacial moraines to our base camp at Lake Samiti. 11 Trek to the Goecha La (4940m) for superb close-up views of Kanchenjunga and the surrounding peaks and glaciers.
