114 The Americas I Ecuador & Peru Inca Trail & Galapagos Islands Ecuador & Peru 21 days Grade: B Galapagos: In Darwin's Footsteps Ecuador 17 days Walking on Isabela Grade: A/B Trek to South America's finest lost city, Machu Picchu, and cruise around the Galapagos Islands Cuzco and the Sacred Valley were the heartland of the Inca Empire, where some of the greatest architectural achievements of the Incas are still preserved in a physical environment of great beauty and charm. Further down the Urubamba River is the famous Inca Trail that allows us to arrive on foot at Machu Picchu via some stunning scenery and extensive ruins. The Galapagos Archipelago is one of the world's prime ecological sites. Avoiding the large cruise ships, we offer what is unquestionably the best way to see the islands and their wildlife: a sleep-on-board cruise on a small motor yacht, which has minimum environmental impact and allows access to areas that large boats cannot reach. Urbina Bay on Isabela; sail on to Punta Espinoza (Fernandina). 18 Puerto Egas and Bartolome. 19 Visit Turtle Cove and sail back to Baltra. Fly to Quito. 20 Depart. 21 Arrive London. Trekking in the Galapagos; a unique combination of the wildlife, volcanoes and geology of the Enchanted Isles Isabela, the largest island in the Galapagos, is the only place in the entire archipelago where extended trekking is possible. A unique environment, it is one of the last remaining habitats of the giant Galapagos Tortoise, is home to many interesting species of endemic wildlife and boasts five major volcanoes. As well as hiking on the recently active Volcan Chico in the Sierra Negra, we also make shorter hikes on several other islands. A unique trip to a truly unusual and fascinating part of the world.
