Fitzroy Aconcagua Ascent Grade: C Argentina 22 days Grade: E Trekking among breathtaking peaks on the edge of the Continental Ice-Cap at the Uttermost Part of the Earth An adventurous two-part trek in Patagonia, where the scenery is dramatic and the trekking worldrenowned. As well as spending time in the Torres del Paine National Park, hiking to the base of the Towers of Paine and close to the Grey Glacier, we also visit the spectacular Moreno Glacier and pass the beautiful, glittering lakes of southern Argentina and Chile. All this is a precursor to our week trekking through the stunning Fitzroy region, visiting Fitzroy and Cerro Torre Base Camps with views of the Continental Ice-Cap. Profile: 10 days walking, including daywalks and point-to-point walks with full porterage. Low altitude throughout. Grade C. Group: min. 6, max. 16, plus leader and appropriate local staff. An ascent of the toughest trekking peak in South America Aconcagua (6962m), on the border of Chile and Argentina, is the highest peak in the Americas or in fact, anywhere outside the Himalaya. In spite of its height it is not a technically difficult climb but does require a very high level of fitness, determination, stamina and concentration. From the roadhead (2950m), we trek to the base camp (4350m) where we have several acclimatisation and training walks. The summit is reached by way of a high altitude camp at 5930m, followed by the thrilling possibility of standing on top of the Americas! summit attempt. 18 Descend to base camp. 19 Walk down to Horcones Valley; drive to Mendoza. 20 Free day to relax in Mendoza. 21 Depart Mendoza. 22 Arrive London.
