TRIP DETAILS
Itinerary: Day 1 Fly to Malaga; transfer to Berchules. 2 Circular walk from hotel along impressive stone-laid mule path with panoramic views of the region. 3 Descend into Guadalfeo Valley to market town of Cadiar; climb through maquis to Juviles, the site of a Muslim tenth century castle. 4 Scenic walk from white village of Trevelez (highest village in Spain at 1500m); return through working cortijos to see how the traditional way of life continues. 5 Free day to visit magnificent Alhambra Palace in Granada or relax in rural Berchules. 6 Walk along Roman paths through La Taha to explore a collection of Moorish villages hidden in a deep gorge. 7 Journey through verdant flower-filled gullies to Nieles, passing the almost hidden village of Castaras for our final lunch. 8 To Malaga; fly to London.

Beautiful walks through Spain's highest sierra from Moorish Las Berchules The Sierra Nevada is a dramatically rich natural park, which towers over southern Spain as the second highest mountain range in Europe. With fertile valleys of chestnut forests and high moorlands covered in lavender and broom, we are rewarded with some of the finest walking in southern Spain. On our journey through picturesque villages, we learn of their fascinating Roman and Moorish influences and the exceptionally diverse plant, bird and animal species, such as bee-eaters and eagles. Throughout the week, we savour many different flavours from the home-cooked evening meals at the hotel, to eating oranges straight from the tree, to our wonderful final tapas lunch where we can experience the renowned local `Jamon Serrano' (cured mountain ham). The free day provides the opportunity to explore the fascinating Moorish city of Granada or simply relax by the hotel's swimming pool.
