Walking in Montenegro Multiple destinations 8 days B/C Perast, Bay of Kotor Grade: B/C Grade: B/C A pioneering trekking trip to Bosnia & Herzegovina, plus the beautiful mediaeval city of Dubrovnik Sutjeska is Bosnia & Herzegovina's oldest national park, encompassing 17,500 hectares of magnificent wilderness and one of Europe's last primeval forests. Running through the park are the Durmitor Mountains, forming the natural border between Bosnia and Herzegovina and Montenegro. This itinerary includes some of the best trekking the region has to offer: ascending Bosnia's highest peak, Maglic Mountain; passing hidden waterfalls and glacial lakes; and heading into the Perucica Forest with its thriving wildlife. It is possible that you will catch a glimpse of brown bear, wolf, and chamois, or perhaps one of the many resident eagles soaring overhead. A beautiful combination of coast, high mountains and fascinating culture in one superb walking week Montenegro is developing into an exciting new destination. We start the week walking the old coastal routes with their stunning views of the ancient cities of Kotor and Budva. Kotor is a charming city set in Montenegro's most beautiful bay and was a centre for trading and sailing. We will also visit three National Parks, each with their own character. The scenery is incredibly varied, from the moonscape terrain of the Adriatic Coast, to the beautiful glacier lakes and rough scree covered slopes of the central high mountains. This area was isolated and fought over for centuries and has provided protection for its people, and enabled them to sustain their religion and traditions. Incredibly these same barren lands are also home to over 380 species of birds and over 1500 rare endemic flowers and herbs. Not only is this a country of incredible beauty, it is a place seemingly untouched by time. A walker's paradise. 5 A relaxed walk discovering some of the many crystal clear lakes and traditional villages in Durmitor National Park. 6 Ascent of Bobtovkuk (2522m), Montenegro's highest peak. 7 Transfer to Dubrovnik, visiting the town of Trebinje in Bosnia and Herzegovina en route. 8 Fly to London.
