Mountain huts & cabins The standard of these accommodation types varies from location to location - European huts are in some cases as well equipped as hotels, while mountain huts in Morocco are often basic with communal sleeping arrangements and only cold running water. What happens to my luggage? One of the many advantages in travelling with a walking specialist like Exodus is that we can do the hard work for you, leaving you to enjoy the wonderful scenery. Therefore on the vast majority of our trips you won't have to lug all your gear around. Check the trip profile section on each trip to see what back-up is provided. Lodges Lodges are mainly used in Europe and Nepal. In Europe we use small private lodges, generally with single and twin share rooms and shared bathroom facilities. In Nepal, lodges are a little different commonly known as Tea Houses, many provide twin share facilities with communal bathrooms, while others use dormitory accommodation. Heating is often solely in the communal areas. Centre-based We base the group at a small hotel or private lodge from which we can plan several daywalks into the surrounding countryside. Some walks start from the front door, whilst others use public or private transfers to the start point, and if you feel like taking it easy it is often possible to opt out of any particular day's walk. These can be ideal first time walking holidays as well as great short breaks for the experienced walker. Village houses & gîtes Mainly used in North Africa, our trips utilise village house accommodation where hotels, lodges and huts aren't available. Facilities in this type of accommodation are often quite basic, with communal sleeping areas, cold running water and shared facilities. Vehicle supported itineraries On many trips we move accommodation several times so that a specific route can be accomplished. Where this is the case we tend to use vehicle support where the road systems are good. The vehicle is there to carry the bulk of your kit, leaving you free to do the walking. And when the roads run out? Full Porterage A summary of the facilities is given in the Accommodation section on the Trip pages. The Trip Notes for all of the itineraries in this brochure give more details of the types of accommodation used each night on the trip. Occasionally other types of accommodation may be used: in this case full details are given in the Trip Notes. In several more remote regions of the world the road systems are poor or non-existant. Where this is the case your kit will be carried on mules, yaks, camels or by porters. You are then free to concentrate on your trek, carrying only what you need for that day. Backpacking On a few itineraries there is simply no alternatives and you will have to carry your own luggage. This is particularly true in Europe where we use remote mountain huts and refuges to access some of the most beautiful parts of the Alps, Pyrenees and other mountain ranges. On these walks we recommend that you have had previous experience of backpacking. To book call 0845 863 9616 or visit www.exodus.co.uk 9
