A varied week of winter activities and sightseeing in the heart of the beautiful Mont Blanc region
The Mont Blanc region justifiably lays claim to some of the most spectacular mountain scenery anywhere in the world, and is a stunning setting for our week of activities. Both Italy and Switzerland border the Chamonix valley, making this a truly international trip. We are based for the week at the Chalet Savoy, a few minutes walk from the Les Houches world cup downhill ski fields and cross-country ski trails. From our chalet we enjoy a range of fun activities including snowshoe walking, cross-country skiing in both classic and skating style, dogsledding, ice skating, snowmobiling, riding the Mont Blanc express train and also visiting a St. Bernard dog kennels. There will be time to explore the town of Chamonix and a wide range of optional activities on your free day.
ACTIVITY PROFILE
6 days of winter activities. No particular experience is required, but a good general level of fitness is helpful for cross-country skiing and snowshoeing. Instruction for cross-country skiing is given for both beginners and intermediates. Grade: A/B.

ITINERARY
Day 1: Fly from London Heathrow to Geneva and transfer to Les Houches (1 hr 15 mins). Day 2: Half day guided snowshoe walk. Afternoon cross-country `classic' ski lesson. Day 3: A day in the Italian Ferret valley for cross-country skiing with instructor. Day 4: Half day dogsled outing (2 persons share sled) before riding on the Chamonix Express train; visit St. Bernard dog kennels then on to Chamonix and ice-skating session. Day 5: Free day. Options include skiing, glacier walk with guide, Aguille du Midi cable car ride or relaxing in Chamonix. Day 6: Half day cross-country skiing instruction in Italy with emphasis on `skate' technique, followed by introduction to `Nordic walking' and a short 2km snowmobile excursion to a mountain chalet for mulled wine and cake. Day 7: A full day guided snowshoe outing. Day 8: Transfer to Geneva, fly to Heathrow.
CHALET SAVOY
A homely chalet run by Oliver and Elaine Ensor for over 13 years, Chalet Savoy is perched on a hillside above the charming village of Les Houches, a few miles from Chamonix. There are 9 bedrooms, all with private facilities and mountain views, and some with balconies. The chalet has a sauna/wet room, an outdoor hot tub, drying room, dining room, and a comfortable lounge where we take tea and cakes in front of an open fire.
