AMAZONIA & BEYOND
16 DAYS LODGES/HOTELS A WILDLIFE ADVENTURE In the far north eastern corner of Bolivia's Santa Cruz Department lies Noel Kempff Mercado NP, one of the world's most unique and diverse natural habitats. Flying deep into the virgin forests, we stay in a remarkable lodge at Flor de Oro. The remoteness of the park has not only preserved its great bio-diversity but has also placed it out of reach of most travellers. Pampas & Madidi National Park From La Paz we fly down to the Amazon basin and explore the contrasting ecosystems of the Pampas and the tropical lowlands of Madidi NP. After anaconda-spotting in the Pampas we take a 5-hour canoe ride up the bubbling River Tuichi to our eco-lodge run by indigenous Amerindians. We explore this lush, green, tropical rainforest, taking time to spot and photograph the great diversity of wildlife found here. Noel Kempff Mercado NP Two and a half hours by plane from the bustling city of Santa Cruz, we arrive in an incredible region of forest, rivers, oxbow lakes and seasonally flooded savannah. Rising like a 'Lost World' out of this wild vegetation are the rocky escarpments of the 500m high Huanchaca Plateau, which you may choose to ascend and be rewarded with commanding views out over this untouched region. During our plentiful time here we will search for wildlife on foot, in canoes, by boat and from the riverside where our local guides are experts at knowing the best places to see larger wildlife. Diverse Wildlife 620 bird species have been identified in this park; approximately one quarter of all birds in the neotropics. From over 20 species of parrot, to the Amazonian umbrella bird and the harpy eagle, bird sightings are excellent
