Italy has an abundance of attractions to entice the traveller into a visit and the north of the country is no exception. History abounds throughout the region and this carefully planned, well-paced cycling tour will take us to some of the most fascinating sites Veneto has to offer. We also experience the beautiful coastal scenery along the Golfo di Venezia and explore several remote villages where traditional life still continues at its own pace. Our route takes us along small country roads and we use local ferries on a tour that should delight any cyclist.

Itinerary Day 1 Fly London/Venice; drive Vicenza. 2 Cycle along Venetian fields to Bassano del Grappa. 3 Cycle via Asolo to Treviso. 4 Cycle to Mestre on the outskirts of Venice. 5 Explore Venice; ferry to the Lido and cycle on to Chioggia. 6 Cycle via Stra and Villa Pisani to Padua. 7 Cycle via Costozza to Vicenza, with the chance to taste grappa. 8 Drive to Venice; fly London. Vineyards & Grappa Our journey begins in neo-classical Vicenza, a former stronghold where the old city walls are still in evidence. Heading north, we cycle to Bassano del Grappa famed for its old wooden bridge and local after-dinner tipple, but also a place of historical significance flanked by the gentle rolling hills of the Dolomites. Passing picturesque vineyards, we marvel at our surroundings and have the chance to sample some of the local food and excellent wines. Venice & Coastal Scenery We make our way via Asolo and Treviso to Venice, long popular with visitors to Italy; we cycle to the outskirts of this great city, before enjoying its splendour on foot. We cross the various islands in the Golfo di Venezia using a combination of the local ferries and our bicycles. Continuing south

Grade & Terrain: Grade A/B, easy to moderate 260km/6 days, (average 39km per day). We cycle mainly on asphalt roads (85% of the journey) but with some smaller tracks for variety and to avoid the occasional traffic. More regular cyclists will find the cycling easier; there is only one steeper section of 1km in length which can be made on foot. Tour Staff & Support: Explore Tour Leader accompanies the group on each ride. Our support vehicle moves on luggage each day; you carry only what you need for the day. Group Size: Approx. 12 to 16. along the coastal route we make our way to the town of Chioggia on the shores of Laguna Veneta and famed for its daily fish market. Padua & Piazzas Paduas city centre has large pedestrianised areas and much to offer the visitor, particularly its renowned nightlife. From here our cycle route takes us from the coast, inland to explore the artistic splendour of the regions museums and churches. Finally, we head through the scenic villages at the foot of the Berici Hills passing the famous Villa Rotonda en route, before once again arriving in Vicenza and a final chance to sample the local food and wine.
