Cycling through rural Serbia CYCLE GRADE A
Once part of Yugoslavia, Serbia has been forgotten for years and, to our advantage, still does not attract the large numbers of tourists that its better-known neighbours do. During this varied week youll discover ancient spa towns, taste traditional Balkan fare, indulge in Turkish baths, discover waterfalls, monasteries and caves and meet the friendly Serbian people who genuinely delight in meeting foreign guests. Travelling by bike well use a network of back-roads and small tracks to really get to know this undiscovered part of the world.
Spas & Citadels From the spa town of Sokobanja we ride to the little village of Resnik stopping en-route to visit a 200 year-old watermill, then return to Sokobanja to ease any aching limbs in a hot Turkish bath! Next we pedal through the beautiful forests and traditional farmland of the South Morava valley, arriving in Nis with time to visit the 19th century tower, the 18th century Turkish Citadel and perhaps stroll the streets. Free time allows for a walk to Sokograd, whose fort was one of the last places to fall to Turkish rule. Waterfalls, Springs & Monasteries Driving north to Despotovac we enter a region of long river gorges, huge forests and many caves. Here we bike to famous Manasija Monastery then make our way from the the little village of Vodna Mine through beautiful scenery to Resavska Cave 2.8km in length, a visit to Resavska and Lisine waterfall is not to be missed. The cycling here is superb, on quiet roads and
