CAIRO TO KARNAK 5 DAYS HOTEL EXPLORING THE HIGHLIGHTS OF ANCIENT EGYPT Egypt home to some of the greatest man-made monuments on earth and the last surviving Wonder of the Ancient World the Pyramids of Giza. Few would disagree that the sights and ancient artefacts here are amongst the most astonishing anywhere, and our long weekend in this ancient land takes in all the highlights: the Giza Pyramids and Sphinx, the breathtaking Egyptian Museum, Queen Hatshepsut's Temple, the Valley of the Kings and the greatest temple of all, Karnak. Cairo & the Giza Pyramids At 4,500 years old, the Pyramids of Giza aren't the oldest in Egypt, but are the most intact and certainly the most impressive. We have time here to take in the awesome scale of the pyramids and to marvel at such a bewildering feat of engineering. Also there's the chance to explore the rest of the Giza Plateau: the magnificent Solar Boat, the Granite Temple, and of course the enigmatic Sphinx. Next, we visit the Egyptian Museum where the riches of countless pharaohs line the halls in a glittering display of gold. Here the treasures discovered by Howard Carter in the tomb of the boy-king Tutankhamun can be found, including the famous golden mask. Ancient Thebes & Valley of the Kings A short flight brings us to Luxor, the site of Ancient Thebes, described as the world's greatest open-air museum. Here we have two full days to enjoy the many sightseeing highlights, plus absorb the vibrant mix of traditional and modern in the bazaars and backstreets. We travel in caleshes (horse drawn carriages) to the mighty Temple of Amun at Karnak and ride donkeys to the Valley of the Kings and Queen Hatshepsut's Temple. Ref AWE Furthermore, there's the chance to sail on the Nile in traditional feluccas, explore the lesser known Valley of the Queens, or wander through the colonnades of Luxor Temple.
