A short trip ideal for those with limited time. After sightseeing in Moscow we fly to Siberia and the foothills of the Altai Mountains. We plan to experience the magic of a total solar eclipse in the wilds of this very beautiful and remote region.
Kremlin and Red Square Russia's present day capital is home to the infamous Red Square containing Lenin's Tomb, the multicoloured domes of St Basil's Cathedral and the mighty Kremlin with its incredible complex of palaces, churches and museums. We explore these by bus, on foot and also using the fabulous Moscow Metro system, a treasure trove of 1930s socialist realist art. Murals of smiling workers, ceiling mosaics, bronzes and
Russia, On the junction of two rivers, pretty Chemal is our base from where we plan to travel to a specially chosen site to view the eclipse. Popular with Siberian tourists in summer, it's a great place for some easy walks and we plan to pay a visit to the orthodox monastery on nearby Patmos Island.
