PERU·BOLIVIA CHAVIN TO INCA, AN ARCHAEOLOGICAL JOURNEY 22 DAYS HOTELS/HOSTAL AN IN-DEPTH ARCHAEOLOGICAL EXPLORATION From the remote and arid deserts in the North of Peru, to the Altiplano of Bolivia and eastern Peru, our archaeological expert will guide us through the fascinating worlds of pre-Inca and Inca civilisations. This is a truly comprehensive tour that will appeal to any archaeology or Latin American enthusiast. Our archaeologist is Mr Luis Felipe, who has been a university lecturer for the last 8 years and has written several books about pre-Inca and Inca archaeology. He has guided many groups and is recognised as one of the eminent archaeologists in Peru today. Desert & Andes, Moche & Chavin Flying to the oasis cities of the North, we travel through the lands of the Moche and Chimu. After exploring the desert tombs of Sipan, we head south to the pyramids of Chan Chan, located just outside the colonial city of Trujillo. Journeying down the Panamerican highway and into the Andes we base ourselves in Huaraz to visit Chavin de Huanta, one of the earliest fortresses of Peru. The Nazca Lines & Bolivian Tiahuanaco Returning to Lima, the site of Pachacamac is explored en route to Ica. Here the Andes and the Pacific are separated by one of the driest deserts on earth. We take to the air and overfly the enigmatic Nazca Lines huge geometric figures cut into the stony desert floor. We fly to the Bolivian capital of La Paz (3535m) set high in the Cordilleras Real and drive to the ancient ruins of Tiahuanaco. Lake Titicaca to Machu Picchu From Puno we travel across the Altiplano via the Inca cemetery of Sillustani and the temple of Raqchi, arriving at our base in the Sacred Chan Chan Ref SPS Valley. After exploring the Inca site of Pisac, we travel by train through the Urubamba Valley and visit the amazing hilltop site of Machu Picchu, hidden for centuries and probably South America's most memorable sight. Our final days are spent in Cusco (3400m), the Inca "Navel of the Universe" where we walk beneath the towering walls of Sacsayhuaman fortress.
