15 DAYS HOTEL AND NILE RIVERBOAT THE WONDERS OF THE PHARAOHS REVEALED. This in depth tour visits many sites not covered on more conventional tours to Egypt. From the Old Kingdom Pyramids surrounding Cairo, through Middle Egypt, to the New Kingdom capital of Thebes (Luxor) and as far as Abu Simbel, we make an incredible journey through Egypt's history and culture. We are delighted to welcome back Roger Sharp as our guest lecturer to accompany this archaeological tour to Egypt, a country for which he has a particular fondness. Roger has taught archaeology to adult and further education classes for over twenty years and specialises in the archaeology and culture of the civilisations that surround the Mediterranean basin. Cairo & the Old Kingdom The Egyptian Museum, with its vast array of antiquities, is the perfect place to start our exploration of ancient Egyptian civilisation. In addition to the extraordinary Pyramids at Giza, with the Sphinx and Solar Boat, we also visit the oldest pyramid complex at Saqqara and the little visited site of Dashur. Temples of Middle Egypt From El Minya we visit the remarkable rock-cut tombs of Beni Hassan, majestically overlooking the Nile Valley, then discover the ruins of Tel El Amarna; the short-lived capital of Egypt's most enigmatic figures; Akhenaton and his queen Nefertiti. Also on our journey are the brilliantly coloured bas-reliefs of Abydos the burial ground of Osiris (god of the dead). 3 day Nile cruise At Aswan we'll have the chance to visit the stunning temples of Philae and Abu Simbel the monumental temple of Ramses II and even ride a camel before we board our riverboat for a leisurely cruise to Luxor via Kom Ombo and Edfu.
