NEW! NABATEAN JOURNEY TO PETRA
This journey takes us to a land of ancient traders and dramatic scenery experiencing the country's tranquillity and rich culture. We visit Jordan's most important historical sites some of which are not covered by conventional tours from the pillars of Jerash to the rock formations of Petra where we make several visits. Roger Sharp is our guest lecturer to accompany this architectural tour of Jordan, a country that he has great experience and affection for as part of his years' lecturing on the culture and civilisations of the region. Amman, Jerash, Mount Nebo & Madaba The journey commences with a city tour of the ancient remains of Amman. The following day involves an extended tour of Jerash with its atmospheric ruins, temples, arches, theatres and the evocative Street of Columns. Our visit to Mount Nebo includes the historical

9 DAYS HOTELS JOURNEY ALONG THE NABATEAN HIGHWAY & DISCOVER AN ANCIENT WONDER OF THE WORLD church and mosaics with views over the Jordan Valley and then onto Madaba, which boasts a 6th Century Byzantine mosaic map housed in the Church of St George. Umm Qais & Pella The itinerary continues with a visit to Irbid, where we visit the impressive museum and then onto the biblical and classical sites of Umm Qais and Pella. Umm Qais includes the atmospheric ruins of Gadara comprising of ancient Roman ruins intertwined with houses of an Ottoman village and spectacular views over the Sea of Galilee. Pella in the Jordan Valley is probably the area's richest site with antiquities dating back to both the Old and New Testament . Petra The site has recently been awarded one of the 'Wonders of the World' and no amount of research can prepare you for the mystery and grandeur of the attraction that was hidden from the west for many centuries. The following days take you through the site visiting places not normally included in standard trips such as Little Petra and the important Neolithic site of Beidha, with remains dating back 10,000 years as well as the opportunity to explore some old Nabatean houses. Furthermore, no visit to Petra would be complete without seeing the Treasury, Roman Theatres, Palaces, the Urn Tombs, city centre and to climb past the obelisks and fortresses to the High Place of Sacrifice.
