Explore or have made your own flight arrangements, a transfer will not be included. However, we are able to pre-book transfers (and additional accommodation if required) for you on some tours. Please ask our Customer Sales team for details. BOOKING CLASSES All scheduled flights used by Explore are booked in economy class unless specified otherwise. If you are interested in upgrading to Premium Economy, Business, Club or First Class please call our Customer Sales team. FLIGHT ROUTINGS Explore uses a number of indirect flights which may require you to change aircraft en route. This may be because we cannot obtain a block (allocation) of seats with a direct flight carrier, it could be to keep the tour cost competitive or it may be the only option. If you are interested in booking a direct flight, please call our Customer Sales team. SEATING Although Explore are unable to assign specific flight seats, it is possible to put special requests through to the majority of airlines but these are just requests. If you have specific requirements, please let us know at the time of booking. Please be aware that no guarantees can be made that your request will be actioned. This may sometimes mean your allocated seats are not together with other members of your party.. It is therefore highly recommended that you checkin for your flight as early as possible. FLIGHT MEALS Although meals are still provided on most international flights, you should be aware that there is a trend towards them not being included on shorter flights, and particularly those within Europe. On many routes with connections within Europe, a meal will be provided on the inter-continental sector, but not on the sector between the UK and the connecting European airport. We cannot therefore guarantee that a meal will be provided on all flights. If you have a special dietary requirement, please let us know at the time of booking. We will send an automated request through to the airline. Please be aware that in most cases airlines do not confirm individual meal requests, so it is worth double-checking that the meal has been ordered at check-in. CHANGE OF AIRLINE Due to the ever-changing nature of the airline business, airlines used for Explore tours can vary from those published, as can flight schedules and timings. Blocks (allocations) of seats sometimes cease to be available. This can be for a number of reasons, including the airline withdrawing the flight or smaller aircraft being used. Where this is the case, we will find an alternative either alternative flights with the same carrier or similar flights with an alternative carrier. If as a result of any changes, flight schedules are significantly different to the original ones, we will of course inform you of this, outlining any implications it may have on the tour itinerary.
FLIGHT SCHEDULE CHANGES When you book a tour with Explore your Confirmation Invoice will contain provisional flight details, correct at the time of issue. The timings or even the flight numbers or routing could vary several times before departure. Explore will monitor these changes and inform you as soon as possible if there is a change which affects your departure or arrival time by more than 6 hours, moves the tour to a different day or significantly affects the tour itinerary. Smaller changes will not be communicated prior to the Final Invoice being sent 9 to 10 weeks before departure. Your Final Invoice will contain the most up to date flight details. Subsequent to it being sent, you will be informed of any further changes. Bearing this in mind, it is advisable to defer booking any connecting travel to the airport until you have received the final invoice. Where Explore are arranging domestic regional flights, these will be automatically rebooked to connect with your international flights. Again we would only inform you of this prior to the invoice being sent if there was a change as described above. GETTING TO THE UK AIRPORT It is the responsibility of customers to make their own way to the departure airport in the UK, on the correct date and at the right time. It is recommended that you aim to arrive slightly before the check-in time, to allow for delays caused by additional airport security and immigration (and traffic!). We strongly recommend that you do not purchase non-flexible connecting rail, air or bus tickets, as they usually incur penalty charges in the event of a change to the departure time or date. AT THE UK AIRPORT Explore does not provide a formal meet and greet at the departure airport in the UK.There may well be other Explore customers on the same flight (possibly on other tours as well as yours), so look out for the distinctive Explore luggage labels. You will generally meet the rest of the group plus your tour leader at the joining point overseas. FLIGHT DELAYS You should be aware that delays either prior to departure from the UK, en route to the starting point of your tour or on the return journey can occur for any number of reasons. These include inclement weather, technical problems with the aircraft, air traffic control problems, last minute flight schedule changes, security issues and airline over-booking problems. Each airline has a different policy as to how it deals with these situations, dependent on the severity of the delay. Most will provide drink or meal vouchers or even accommodation if the delay is substantial. Explore has no control over flight delays or the provision of vouchers or accommodation, and standard airline policy applies in all cases. Our Tour Leaders monitor flight changes and will usually be aware of any delay to a group flight from the UK. If there is a significant delay customers should contact us on our 24hr duty phone, the number of which is supplied with final joining instructions.
