11 DAYS HOTELS/TENTED CAMP/CHALET AFRICAS UNDISCOVERED GAMELANDS
Tanzania devotes more land to wildlife conservation than any other country. The great game parks of the north are already familiar names and justly world famous. But the marvellous Selous Game Reserve in the south, a true wilderness with a rich variety of wildlife, is virtually undiscovered and remains one of Africas best kept secrets. The latter part of our tour is spent on the exotic paradise island Zanzibar.
Selous Game Reserve Well charter a light aircraft from Dar-esSalaam and head southwest to our comfortable river camp in the Selous Game Reserve. The Selous is the largest wildlife area in the world. It is over 21,000 square miles and almost four times the size of the Serengeti! Well go bird-watching and organise an early morning game drive. Well also explore the Rufiji River by boat and watch wildlife come down to drink at dusk. In the evenings we enjoy beautiful African sunsets. The Selous has herds of elephant, as well as many hippos, crocodiles, giraffe, lion, wildebeest, Lichtensteins hartebeest, kudu and prolific birdlife. Fragrant Zanzibar Island We also spend time relaxing and exploring on the spice-rich island of Zanzibar. In Old Zanzibar town you can wander the narrow streets past mosques and towering minarets, or enjoy the aromas of the spices this island

NORTH COAST
This lodge-based safari travels to some of the most untouched and least visited wildlife areas in Africa. Prolific game roams freely in the beautiful Ruaha National Park and well also see many animals in the Selous; Tanzanias largest game reserve. Time is also spent on a tea estate in the Southern Highlands and there is further game-viewing in the Mikumi National Park.
Game Drives in Ruaha National Park We begin with a spectacular drive through savannah, then up through forested mountains to the old German town of Iringa. From here we take a remote road to our lodge in Ruaha with a scenic backdrop of wooded hills and gorges, a fantastic game area watered by the Great Ruaha River. Among the animals that come to drink at the waters edge, we expect to see elephant, lion, leopard, and buffalo; bird life is also plentiful. Several game drives assure a magical wildlife experience in one of Africas most superb game settings. Travelling the Southern Highlands We explore the important Stone Age site at Isimila, then drive up through lush, rolling hills to stay at Mufindi Tea Estate (2100m). Situated on the edge of an escarpment, there are impressive views of the Kibasira marshes below. A long days drive brings us back to the gamelands of Mikumi National Park, flanked by the Udzungura and Uluguru Mountains. Into the Selous Game Reserve We follow little used tracks into the Selous to our comfortable tented camp which has wonderful views of the Rufiji river. The Selous Game Reserve is the largest of its kind anywhere in the world at over 21,000 square miles. It is a chance to see game in a true

wilderness area. We hope to see elephant, giraffe, lion, wildebeest, Lichtensteins hartebeest, kudu, hippo and crocodile. From the vantage of a boat well watch wildlife come to drink at the river bank.
