This trip combines explorations of the Nile Valley by felucca with visits to the great archaeological treasures of Luxor and Aswan. Plus some pleasant days relaxing and swimming in the warm waters and among coral reefs off the Red Sea coast, and a final visit to Cairo.
Pyramids & Aswan In Cairo, well admire the ancient Pyramids at Giza and the mighty Sphinx. We take the overnight train south to the colourful town of Aswan in Upper Egypt, a fascinating place to explore. We also suggest an optional excursion to the famous rock-cut temple of Abu Simbel, 3000 years old and dedicated to the Pharaoh Ramses II and stunning Philae Temple. 3-day Felucca Sailtrek The traditional method of transport on the Nile is the felucca, a wind-powered sailboat. We follow suit taking to the water, sleeping on deck at night! Pulling in to rural villages or mooring along the banks of the Nile along the way, we explore at a leisurely pace. Luxor & Red Sea Corals Reaching Luxor, we ride donkeys to the Valley of the Kings to see the tombs of the Pharaohs. We also take a local calesh a horse-drawn carriage to Karnak and the colossal Temple of Amun. Next we drive to al Life on the Nile
Quseir, an historic port on the Red Sea. During our time here we recommend a boat trip to tiny islands and coral reefs found offshore. Theres plenty of opportunity for snorkelling, swimming or just relaxing before our journey back to Cairo, where there is time to visit many of the stunning sights in and around this amazing city.
The best of both worlds, as we explore the Nile Valley by riverboat, visiting the fabled treasures and sites of Luxor and Aswan, before relaxing on the Red Sea coast. Here we unwind and enjoy the unique beauty of the coral reefs and azure waters, and finally revisit the treasures of Cairo.
Pyramids & Luxor While in Cairo, well visit the Pyramids of Giza and the Egyptian Museum a unique collection of artifacts. We journey by train south to the fascinating town of Luxor. Here well ride donkeys to the Valley of the Kings and take a local calesh a horse-drawn carriage to visit Karnaks colossal Temple of Amun. Nile Cruise to Aswan Next we board our Nile riverboat and set off for the journey to Aswan, observing small riverside villages and the daily work of the felahin rural farmers whose lives have changed little since the time of the Pharaohs. We pause to admire sacred sites like the Temple of Horus at Edfu, and Kom Ombo, dedicated to the crocodile god Sobek. We reach Aswan, an exciting place to explore with plenty to do and see. You can wander the bazaar or take trips into the desert, perhaps visiting the famous temple of Abu Simbel.
Relaxing on the Red Sea Returning to Luxor by train, we then drive to the coast and relax at Hurghada, on the Red Sea: we will organise boat trips (optional) to off-shore islands and coral reefs, with plenty of chances to swim and snorkel, before ending our tour back in Cairo. We recommend a visit to the Khan al Kalili bazaar a colourful maze of alleyways with street vendors and hawkers keen to sell their wares. Hatshepsut Temple
