Next, switching our transport to snowmobiles (optional), we can race across the snowfields towards Kebnekaise, Swedens highest peak, stopping en route to try a spot of ice fishing. Back at base there will be the obligatory sauna to warm up. Reindeer Rides & the Icehotel Transferring to Jukkasjarvi we check in at the world famous Icehotel, where everything from the chandeliers to the glasses for your drinks are made of ice (here you can drink a vodka on the rocks!). We enjoy a short reindeer sled ride, then the afternoon is free for optional activities of your choice snow-shoeing and cross country skiing are both available. Tonight, in what might be the strangest night of your life, you sleep on thick rugs on beds made of ice in rooms made of ice: a fitting end to our wild winter adventure.

In November each year, ice begins to spread across the Gulf of Bothnia eventually covering the entire area in an ice sheet that can be up to 8 metres thick in places! The town of Kemi, close to the Swedish border, is the base from which we can get a taste for one of the ultimate cruising experiences icebreaking. Add to this a night in the constantly evolving Snow Castle and the chance to experience the excitement of snowmobiling or dogsledding, we truly have a weekend to remember!
Icebreaker Adventure After 30 years of plying Arctic waters, Sampo, one of the world's few passenger-carrying icebreakers, is more than adequately equipped to take us on an exploration of the Gulf of Bothnia. Our trip includes a guided tour of the ship, lunch and the chance for the bolder amongst you to don a thermal dry suit and jump into the icy waters! Upon arriving back at port, we make our way to the Snow Castle that enjoys a commanding position looking out over the frozen landscape. Snow Castle Rebuilt every year, the Snow Castle is a testament not only to the skills of local architects and builders but also to the sculptors who bring the rooms to life with their intricate and colourful carvings. The hotel maintains a constant temperature of -5 degrees and the warm bedding provided means it is possible to sleep very well in this incredible world. Returning to our hotel you
could enjoy a sauna before taking the chance to explore more of this fascinating region by snowmobile or on dogsleds.

This exciting 5 day Arctic adventure offers the chance to try out a host of invigorating winter activities including dog and reindeer sledding, snowmobiling and ice fishing in the frozen tundra of Swedish Lapland. We also include a night in the fabulous Icehotel, and, weather permitting, there is a good chance to see the amazing Aurora Borealis the Northern Lights.
Dog Sleds & Snowmobiles Based in the snowy northern outpost of Kiruna, the fun starts with a dog sled safari. With our professional guide, team of 12 huskies and 3-4 people per sled, we mush off into the wilderness. We shall take our lunch in a Sami tent in a beautiful nature reserve and can round the day off with a steaming sauna.
