20 DAYS HOTELS/CHALET/LONGHOUSE/HOSTEL/LODGE HIGHLIGHTS OF BORNEO
Borneo evokes images of primeval forest, jungle rivers and headhunters. Travelling by plane, bus, longtail boat and on foot, we explore this fascinating and varied land. We journey through both Sarawak and Sabah the provinces that make up Malaysian Borneo.
Iban Longhouse & National Parks From the bustle of Sarawak's capital Kuching, we head by bus and boat into Bako National Park the habitat of unusual wildlife, including proboscis monkeys, monitor lizards and many rare plants. Travelling along the Lemanak River, we have the chance to stay in a traditional Iban longhouse and learn about the lifestyles of these welcoming people. Spectacular Mulu Caves A highlight of this tour is the time spent in the famous Gunung Mulu National Park. We have Iban man
wonderful views of the hill and swamp forest that covers this area and the wide muddy rivers that meander through it. We take plank walks through the rainforest and visit some of the beautiful caves that make up one of the world's most extensive underground systems including Deer Cave which is one of the largest caves in southern Asia. Mountains & Orang Utans Next, we journey to the Kinabalu National Park, in Sabah, then climb through the rainforest to our mountain hostel on Kinabalu South East Asia's highest peak. There's time for an ascent to the summit to see the sunrise, before descending and continuing to Sepilok. We stay in a jungle lodge, and at the nearby sanctuary see orang utans living wild. We also explore the Kinabatangan river around Sukau, where proboscis monkeys nest in the treetops in the late afternoon. Returning to the west coast we travel by boat to the idyllic island of Manukan for some relaxation, swimming and snorkelling in the clear blue waters.
