Your guide to
Turkey
Antalya (Side, Alanya)
This region in Turkey's south west corner is a 400-mile sweep of white-sand beaches and secluded coves. And, the coast is backed by olive groves, avocado plantations and the pine-clad Taurus Mountains. Antalya is now one of Turkey's most upmarket areas. In fact, it's often referred to as the Turkish Riviera. In resorts like Side, the coastline is complemented by a yacht-filled marina and avenues of designer boutiques. In Belek, immaculate golf courses sidle up to the sand. And in Lara and Kemer, hotels come with a luxury label. It's still easy to experience the region's traditional side. In Antalya Town, the backstreets are brimming with spice-filled bazaars.

Bodrum
(Gumbet, Altinkum, Ortaken) Bodrum's cap is full of feathers. Stretching out along Turkey's southern coast, it earned its first quill on the back of its beaches. In areas like Gumbet, Turgutreis and Bitez, the sun, sea and sand package is served up with lively nightlife and the full spectrum of shops and restaurants. In Torba and Turkbuku, meanwhile, you'll find stretches of sand with fewer footprints and traditional tavernas. The next plume in Bodrum's headdress can be put down to the region's history. All the peninsula's resorts are within day-trip distance of Ephesus, one of the best preserved classical cities in the world.

Ovacik Marmaris
(Marmaris, Icmeler, Hisaronu, Ovacik) Slicing into Turkey's south west coast, Dalaman has been attracting visitors since ancient times. Today, the area pulls in two million tourists a year. Known as the Turquoise Coast, Dalaman's shoreline is a chain of coves, bays and long stretches of sand. In Icmeler and Fethiye, soft sands, beach bars and watersports are all part of the package. And the famous Blue Lagoon in Olu Deniz is so spectacular it's been turned into a national park. Dalaman is also close to historical sites like Ephesus, which, in its glory days, was the second-biggest city in the Roman Empire. Plus it puts you within easy reach of Marmaris - a busy city that revolves around a colourful bazaar.
