Algarve
Algarve
For 50-odd years, UK holidaymakers have been hotfooting it over to the Algarve. And it's not hard to see why. Year-round sunshine and amazing beaches. If you're after a party atmosphere, head to Albufeira and Lagos. Make your way out of the more touristy areas and you've got quiet little castle towns, forested hillsides and stretches of shoreline that seem to have fended off mass development.
Balaia A traditional fishing village with clear blue waters, you'll find plenty to do in Balaia. If you're a beginner or prefer a more relaxed game, there's a brilliant golf course, and you'll be close to lots of family attractions, including Zoomarine, Aqualand, Krazy World and Slide & Splash. Praia do Vau Tranquil and beautiful, Praia do Vau's golden beach and rocky coastline can be found just to the west of Praia da Rocha. This quiet resort has a clutch of restaurants, cafés and bars, with a host of golf courses for every level available nearby. Vilamoura Surrounded by wetlands and nature reserves, the upmarket resort of Vilamoura is popular with the international jetset, thanks to its gorgeous marina, casino, boutiques and luxurious hotels. With a championship golf course and Kadoc, a huge nightclub with five dancefloors, this is a glamorous hotspot. Olhos D'Agua Backed by fragrant pine forests, Olhos d'Agua is Albufeira's greener neighbour. With its winds ideal for windsurfing, the long Praia da Falesia beach never gets overcrowded and you can also visit the `Eye of the Water', a freshwater spring exposed among the rocks at low tide. EXPLORE YOUR DESTINATION Here's a little taste of what's on offer. But for more ideas, just grab a few minutes with your Holiday Advisor who'll point you in the right direction. Zoomarine If you've got the kids in tow, they're going to love this place. The main draw is probably the dolphins who'll perform all kinds of acrobatic tricks. Little ones will also fall head over heels for the sea lions, while the 4D cinema and fairground area are total musts as well. Blue Cruise You'll set sail from Portimão and head for Carvoeira, where you'll get a chance to take in the weird rocky channels, as well as the amazing grottoes and caves. And because there's loads of fun and games onboard for kids, you're free to kick back and enjoy some serious sunshine. Jeep Safari If you're up for getting rough and ready, here's an excursion right up your street. It's your chance to explore the `real' Algarve as you rumble off road in a convoy of jeeps. You'll be whisked through everything from orange groves and rivers, to mountain villages and eucalyptus forests. Golf Golfers love the Algarve. And rightly so - it's got world-class courses like there's no tomorrow. Plus, places like the Porto Bay Falesia offer reduced-price packages at the Oceanico Golf courses.
