Lille
Medieval first city of Flanders, now the stylish capital of Northern France, much of Lille has a typically Flemish feel, with quaint cobbled streets, colourful houses and elegant wood-panelled cafés. At the same time it has at its heart a thriving metropolis with a state-of-the art shopping centre and excellent nightlife, as well as many fine bistros and restaurants, serving everything from hearty Flemish stews to French haute cuisine. Culture lovers will delight in the citys rich architectural heritage, and shouldnt miss the excellent Museum of Fine Art, housing masterpieces by Rubens, Van Dyck, Goya and Delacroix.
