Overnight Dijon on B & B. Day Three: a.m to Nuits St Georges, in heart of worlds most exclusive vineyards, visits and tasting in local cellars. Day Four: a.m. free in Nuits, p.m. to Beaune, included tour of medieval city and into vineyards by tourist train, included visit and tasting in Patriarche wine cellars. Overnight in Beaune on B & B The heart of wine-growing Burgundy lies within a surprisingly small area, a narrow 60-kilometre strip of south and south-eastern facing slopes extending from just south of Dijon to some 20 kilometres south of Beaune. The Côte dOr (literally Golden, from the colour of the slopes in Autumn), comprising the Côte de Nuits and the Côte de Beaune, is the Champs Elysées of Burgundy wine, producing 32 of the 33 so-called grands crus, the most prestigious of all. This rich mosaic of vineyards is dotted with villages and domains whose evocative names read like a roll-call of the worlds most famous red and white wines  GevreyChambertin, Nuits St Georges, AloxeCorton, Pommard, PulignyMontrachet and Meursault to name but a few. Tastings in the vineyards and the cellars of the great wine houses in Beaune, often atmospherically located in old chapels, convents and fortifications, will afford a first hand insight into the unique combination of micro-climate, soil, grape variety and wine-growers know-how, lovingly passed on from generation to generation, which produces wines of such quality, sophistication and amazing variety.
