Description: Simple but charming bed and breakfast at Norris Point in the park, with hardwood floors, black leather and wooden furniture. There is a small bar; hot tub, sauna and dinner is by reservation only. Accommodation: There are 7 rooms, 3 suites Why we like it: Comfortable accommodation in perfect location. Neddies Harbour Inn Location: Gros Morne. Norris Point just outside the park Description: This magnificent oceanfront 4.5* inn offers fine dining, and an outdoor sitting area that will allow you to drink in the surrounding beauty. Other amenities include a fitness room, sauna and hot tub. Accommodation: 14 lovely rooms and some 2/3 bedroom cottages. Why we like it: Eco-friendly and beautiful The Tickle Inn Location: Cape Onion near l'Anse aux meadows. Description: Restored heritage home set on the edge of the ocean surrounded by meadows. Accommodation: 4 simple rooms some with shared bathrooms. Why we like it: the name and the location. Tuckamore Lodge Location: Northern Peninsular. On Southwest Pond, just outside the fishing village of Main Brook. Description: Two pine and cedar Scandinavian style lodges with spectacular lake views. Meals are served in communal dining rooms and there is a sauna, hot tub, billiard room, library, living room with cable television and fitness equipment. Accommodation: 12 cosy room and 3 suites. Why we like it: Perfect position for L'Anse aux Meadows Viking Centre. Quirpon Lighthouse Inn Location: Quirpon Island, Windswept islet, 30 minute boat ride through Iceberg Alley, at the northernmost point of the Viking Trail. Description: Extraordinary inn consisting of two buildings at the foot of a lighthouse on a tiny uninhabited island. The 10 guest rooms are comfortable and cosy, although only one has en-suite facilities. Transfers to the island are weather-dependent. If you want to feel at the edge of the world and away from modern life, stay here for a couple of days. Walk, watch the whales and icebergs drift past, unwind and let this place just wash over you. NB Some walking/scrambling may be required to get to the inn itself. Why we like it: A truly unique experience. This exciting holiday starts and ends in Deer Lake, and explores the nature and geology of Gros Morne National Park - a United Nations World Heritage Site. L'Anse aux Meadows, North America's only known Viking settlement and Red Bay, the Labrador home of over 1,000 Basque whalers during the 1540s, Enjoy Newfoundlanders, the culture, and the landscape on this unforgettable holiday. Day 1: You will be met on arrival in Deer Lake. In the early evening, we begin our exploration of Gros Morne with a light hike. Features include wild flowers, lush forests, mountains, birds, waterfalls, and perhaps a moose. 3 nights Gros Morne Day 2: Gros Morne provides one of the world's great geology lessons. As Prince Edward noted, "What the Galapagos are to biology, Gros Morne is to geology." This morning travel to Western Brook Pond for a 2.5-hour boat journey through a billion years of geological history. The afternoon features beaches, dunes, spectacular scenery, and often some caribou. Day 3: Today travel to the centre of the Earth. Visit the Tablelands where an 80 Day 4: Today drive north to St. Barbe and the Labrador ferry. En route visit The Arches, where the ocean has carved tunnels in the limestone rocks. The ferry ride is a holiday highlight with whales, seals, icebergs, puffins, and pelagic seabirds all commonly seen. Day 6: Today get up early and explore the beautiful Labrador Straits and possibly Quebec before returning to Newfoundland and driving to L'Anse aux Meadows - the only authenticated Viking site in North America. This is the North American extreme of the Appalachians. The ground where you stand (and where the Vikings stood 10 centuries ago) is the most northerly portion of Appalachia.
