The Charlevoix
Between Québec City and the Saguenay Fjord, Charlevoix, designated a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve due to a meteorite that fell to Earth some 350 million years ago. Villages nestle cosily at the foot of the mountains or at waters edge. A land blessed by nature and a good area to base yourself if you want to eat well and see the whales of the St. Lawrence, hike the hills or explore the many art galleries. Activities in the region: golf, fishing, rafting, whalewatching, riding and sea kayaking.
Auberge la Pignoronde
Location: Just outside Baie-Saint-Paul. Description: A spacious inn with lovely gardens leading down to the river, an indoor pool, tennis court, an excellent restaurant. Accommodation: 28 rooms mostly with 1 queen size bed. Why we like it? A relaxing place with good food.
La Pinsonniere Relais & Chateaux
Location: Near Malbaie, Description: A great mix of the personal service of an inn with all the conveniences of a major hotel in this Relais & Chateau member. An elegant country manor perched high above the St Lawrence River, it has Idyllic views, indoor pool, tennis and awardwinning restaurant. Accommodation: 18 spacious rooms with supremely comfortable beds, fireplaces and whirlpool baths. Why we like it? Good food and a comfy bed!
Fairmont le Manoir Richelieu
Location: Pointe au Pic. Description: the Castle on the Cliff a sophisticated resort on the St. Lawrence with casino as well as indoor and outdoor swimming pools, hot tubs, sauna, an Amerispa and several restaurants. Accommodation: 405 rooms and suites some with river view. The Fairmont rooms are a reasonable size with either 1 double or 2 twin beds whilst the Deluxe are larger and have a sitting area with sofa bed. Why we like it? The premier resort in the area. Paid for activities: Golf, riding and tennis, minigolf, bike rental, ATVs, sea kayaks, snowshoes, sleigh rides and dogsledding.
Auberge La Falaises
Location: Malbaie Description: A little gem of an inn overlooking the St Lawrence with pretty garden, exercise room, sauna, tennis and badminton, a swimming pool and superb food. Accommodation: Very pretty regular double room some with balcony plus suites. Why we like it? A charming inn with attentive service. Free activities: Mountain bikes, canoes, cross country skis and snowshoes. Paid for: sleigh rides, dog sledding and snowmobiles.
