Saguenay
This vast region is named after the majestic fjord which runs from the St. Lawrence to Lac St. Jean. The Zoo Sauvage de Saint-Félicien offers up a range of activities based on interacting with the resident wildlife. Add a dash of history to your stay by stopping by the Village historique de Val-Jalbert, an old hamlet that, for 25 years, thrived around a pulp mill. The Montagnais people share their stories, history and cultural heritage with you at the Amerindians of Mashteuiatsh museum. Activities in the region: golf, fishing, whalewatching, bear watching, hiking, rafting, cycling, off-roading, snowmobiling, snowshoeing, dogsledding, ice fishing, cross-country skiing.
Hotel du Tadoussac
Location: On the shores of the St. Lawrence in Tadoussac. Description: A distinctive and historic hotel with its red roof and whitewashed walls. It has a pool, 2 tennis courts and a minigolf, a spa, several eating places and a bar. Accommodation: 149 simple rooms with a combination of queen and twin beds. Why we like it: Location, location, location!

Location: La Baie, near Chicoutimi. Description: On the shores of the fjord with gorgeous views, a pretty garden and swimming pool plus a spa and an excellent restaurant and exceptional wine list. Preference is given to local produce, especially little known wild, edible plants such as bulruches, pimbina, and wild violets to create an updated cuisine inspired by local traditions and Amerindian recipes. Accommodation: Most of the pretty rooms have one queen bed and look out either over the gardens or the fjord. Why we like it: In the words of a past guest A select inn for select people'.

3-hour Whalewatching from Tadoussac
Daily departures May 1-October 1: Zodiac boat £29 per adult £16 per child aged 8-12. May 1-October 29: cruise boat £18 per adult £9 per child aged 6-12.
Tree Top Adventure at Cap Jaseux

Location: Near Chicoutimi. This package includes a visit to a bird sanctuary, a thrilling tree top adventure consisting of monkey bridges, wooden footbridges, nets, cables and slides plus a half-day kayaking excursion. At Parc Aventures, you can sleep in your tree house perched 8 metres high. Log cabins are also available if you prefer to keep your feet on the ground! NB Child must be a minimum height 1m 40.

Black bear watching
15 minutes from Tadoussac the Ferme 5 Etoiles offers a 2-hour walking tour where you could see black bears, beaver and if you are extraordinarily lucky a wolf.
Sea-Kayaking from Tadoussac
A 3-hour experience through the bay ideal for first timers, you will see the first official trading post in Canada in 1600. Daily departures June 20-September 9. Adults £26. Children aged 7 15 £20.
Kayaking on the Fjord
2 nights/3 days
Location: near Tadoussac. You will paddle through the beautiful scenery of the Saguenay Fjord often frequented by beluga whales as your guide gives you kayaking tips and points out things of interest. The tour Includes one night at the Motel le Beluga in Tadoussac in time for an early departure and one night in the campground at Parc Saguenay. Daily Departures: May 19-October 19. Minimum age 16. Price: £243 per person which includes 2 nights accommodation, meals from lunch on Day 2 to lunch on Day 3, use of suitable clothing and all camping equipment.

Adventure in the land of the Caribou

Location: Lac Saint Jean near Chicoutimi. Explore the animals and environment of the boreal forest at the highly acclaimed Zoo Sauvage de StFélicien. You will be taken on a behind-the scenes tour of the zoo's facilities and have a guide who will lead you on wildlife watching excursions where you may see caribou, moose and black bears. Spend the night in a prospector's tent and enjoy a hearty campfire dinner.
