Most of the islands off the westcoast are reached by ferry from Vancouver. There are two ports. Tsawwassen, to the south of Vancouver and close to the airport, is the main departure point for the Gulf islands and Victoria.
Horseshoe Bay to the north of Vancouver on the Whistler road has ferries to Nanaimo on Vancouver island, the Sunshine Coast plus a few of the northern Gulf Islands. The ferries are not expensive costing around £6 per adult and £20 per car. Reservations are recommended during high season and at weekends and cost a further £10 each way. There are further crossings and ferries up and down the coast most of which cannot be reserved.
