Rail Journeys Frontier Canada
The Rocky Mountaineer
By far the most popular train trip in Canada, the Rocky Mountaineer has 3 routes to choose from between the Pacific coast and the Rocky Mountains, in addition to the day trip running between Vancouver and Whistler. One of the most famous rail trips in world, this is a two-day journey with travel only by daylight. Crossing British Columbia and The Rockies, you will pass through breathtaking scenery, staying the night in a comfortable hotel on the way. So which route to choose? A hard choice and really the answer depends on where else you want to be on your holiday they are all good.
Service levels
The two service levels are Redleaf' and Goldleaf'. The Redleaf' service includes comfortable seating with picture window views and air conditioning. Overnight accommodation is arranged in Kamloops and meals, snacks and drinks on the train are included. But to really make the most of this once-in-a-lifetime experience, we strongly recommend you consider the Goldleaf service. Well worth the extra money, this service offers you a pre-assigned seat upstairs in the Dome coach, with its curved glass walls and ceiling giving you a wonderful 360 degrees view of the surrounding countryside. Snacks and drinks are served here, while gourmet breakfast and lunch is served downstairs in the dining room. Named for the mighty Fraser River whose length it follows you will travel through the historic Cariboo Gold Rush region, the lush forests of northern B.C. and the awe-inspiring Rocky Mountain Trench past Mount Robson to Jasper. Overnight in Quesnel. Named for the pass over which it crosses the Canadian Rockies, the Kicking Horse Route traces the historic transcontinental rail line that united Canada's East and West and includes, amongst other highlights, the legendary Spiral Tunnels and Stoney Creek Bridge. Overnight in or near Kamloops.
