Haines Junction: Dalton Trail Lodge
Location: Dezadeash Lake, south of Haines Junction 2 hour drive from Whitehorse. Description: Although primarily a fishing lodge, this is also a first class activity centre, set in over 300,000 sq miles of unspoiled nature, inhabited by a mere 30,000 people. The lodge is surrounded by a network of hiking trails leading into the National Park, which can also be explored on mountain bikes. Lodge-owned canoes are banked on various mountain lakes for the benefit of guests and many of the expeditions into the wilds are planned for non-anglers. Built entirely of cedar, the lodge houses guestrooms with private bath/shower rooms, living room dining room with bar and library. Accommodation: 15 rooms in the main building plus 10 rooms in 4 cabins. Why we like it: Easily accessible wilderness fun and great fishing.
Southeastern Yukon: Frances Lake Wilderness Lodge
Location: North of Watson Lake, South East Yukon Description: Remote backcountry resort with amazing facilities for adventures both winter and summer. Meals are served in the main lodge and there is a living room and library. The lodge consists of the main log cabin and five log guest cabins. Up to 15 guests can be accommodated. Accommodation: Guest cabins are rustic but comfortable with wood stoves and kerosene lamps, portable flush toilets and comfortable beds. All the cabins have beautiful lake views and are within easy walking distance from the main lodge. A shower and sauna in a log cabin overlooking the lake is shared among the guests. Why we like it: Remote, beautiful and a wonderful experience.
Bensen Creek Wilderness Adventure & Retreat
Location: 50 minute drive from Dawson City on the Dempster. Description: This semi-rustic, two-story log house with a fireplace, deck and a natural cedar outdoor hot tub offers a remote and peaceful hideaway, with the chance to hike into the wonderful Tombstone Territorial Park or canoe along the Klondike River. Owned and run by a French restauranteur, the food is good! NB You must order your meal 2 weeks in advance as there are no local shops and menus are planned in advance. Please see the website. Accommodation: In the main house and a cabin. Shared facilities in a separate shower house. Why we like it: Marvellous scenery and food.
Klondike Kate's Cabins & Restaurant
Location: Downtown Dawson. Description: Enjoy great food in a friendly atmosphere in the authentic Gold Rush era building built in 1904. Possibly Dawson's best restaurant. Accommodation: 15 individual log cabins with a mix of bedding. Why we like it: A good Canadian feel.
Aurora Inn
Location: Downtown Dawson city within walking distance of all the sights. Description: A light, airy and modern hotel with a restaurant and coffee shop. Accommodation: Twin and double bedded rooms. Why we like it: Friendly owners
Bombay Peggy's Victorian Inn & Pub
Location: In the heart of Dawson City, close to the river. Description: From the Gold Rush era, Bombay Peggy's is a restored Victorian Inn and Pub The hotel has also served as a brothel, family home, mining company headquarters, boarding house and art gallery. Accommodation: 9 themed Rooms decorated to reflect the building's history. Why we like it: A real slice of Dawson City's history.
