Driving along the northern roads in a sturdy 4X4 you'll experience a unique environment full of breathtaking scenery and lots of wildlife. The Yukon offers thousands of kilometres of secondary roads and trails for the offroad enthusiast to explore, and the majority of this trip will be taken on gravel roads and scenic back country routes. Inuvik Mc Pherson Day 4 Atlin to Frances Lake (575 km) Head back in the Yukon along the Alaska and Campbell highways to a remote lakeside lodge. Frances Lake lies in the centre of the Tintina trench, a geological fault that stretches through the heart of the Yukon. The drive provides several highlights including waterfalls, lake front beaches for lunch, and hiking opportunities. You will cross Frances Lake by boat to your private lakeside cabin. 2 nights in Frances Lake. All meals included. Tombstone MountainsTravel the tundra before entering Eagle Plains, a rolling region of hills nestled between the Ogilvie and Richardson Mountain range. Breakfast included. Overnight in Eagle Plains. Eagle Plains Motel Day 5 Frances Lake You will have a full day in Frances Lake to explore the area and history. The lodge is located near the original Hudson's Bay trading fort in the Yukon, and the hiking, fishing, canoeing, and wildlife viewing are exceptional. Day 9 Eagle Plains to Inuvik (364 km) Travel across the Arctic Circle and continue driving north keeping your eye out for wildlife on the surrounding slopes and small river valleys, where it is common to see moose and grizzly bear. As you pass the Richardson Mountains, you will enter the Day 6 Frances Lake to Faro (267 km) Rugged and remote, today's drive along the Pelly River Valley will provide opportunities for wildlife viewing of moose, bears, and sheep. Breakfast included. Overnight in Faro. Valley B&B Day 7 Faro to Keno (456 km) Travel along the Silver Trail to historic mining villages where you will explore a rarely visited region of the Yukon. The region was once the world's largest silver producer Overnight in Keno. Keno Cabins Day 8 Keno to Eagle Plains (582 km) Travelling north, you will leave the valley and begin driving the Dempster Highway, The highway quickly climbs out of the Klondike River Valley and enters the Day 11 Bensen Creek A day to relax or drive the short distance into the Tombstone National Park. Day 12 Bensen Creek to Dawson City (70 km) Back on to tarmac roads today as you arrive at the home to the greatest Gold Rush of all time. Visit the famous gold fields and even try your hand in looking for gold at an active mine. The evening can be spent at Diamond Tooth Gertie's Gambling Hall Breakfast Aurora Hotel included. 2 nights in Dawson City. Day 13 Free day in Dawson City; you can visit Jack London's cabin or perhaps take the King Solomon's Dome Jeep tour to Bonanza Creek. (£52 pp) Day 14 Dawson City to ????? (296 km) Another fabulous drive as you travel the well-named Top-of-the-World Highway and enter Alaska before dropping into a series of river valleys. Breakfast included. Overnight in Tok. Day 17 Kluane to Whitehorse (187 km) Although your holiday is almost over and it is only a 2 hour drive, it is still worth looking out for the caribou herds can sometimes be seen from this road. Arctic Chalets Day 16 Kluane Explore Kluane National Park today, home to the world's largest non-polar icefields and Canada's tallest mountain, Mt. Logan. Day 15 Tok to Kluane (460 km ) Heading back to the Yukon today you might stop at the Sheep Mountain Visitor's Centre where you can use telescopes to look for Dall sheep on Sheep Mountain and learn about the flora and fauna of Kluane National Park.
