Alaska & Yukon Places to go, things to do
Sitka
Sitka's history is as old as time itself. Home to the Kiksadi Tlingit people for thousands of years, the area was selected by Alexander Baranof as Russia's American capital in 1799. For more than 80 years the Russians and Tlingits were partners in the fur trade before Russia sold Alaska to the USA in 1867 for 7.2 million dollars, a sum almost unheard of at the time and much ridiculed by the American public.
Westmark Sitka Hotel
