Manitoba
Most people go to Manitoba for the Polar Bears at Churchill, but they sometimes miss Winnipeg, with its fabulous Manitoba Museum of Man and Nature, and long history dating back to the formation of the Hudson Bay Company. The Oak Hammond Marshes are a must for any bird lover, particularly in the spring and autumn. Lower Fort Garry dates to the 1850s and is a fascinating insight into the early days of the Hudson Bay Company, its trading and ways of life. Head out of Winnipeg to Riding Mountain National Park and see a bit of the prairie as well as bear and bison.
Black Bears at Riding Mountain Guest Ranch

To the west of Winnipeg, this is a haven for wildlife. Black bears can be watched from blinds but you can also see elk, moose, prairie bison, beaver and over 260 species of birds.
