The Oak Hammond Marshes are a must for any bird lover, particularly in the spring and autumn. Lower Fort Garry dates to the 1850s and is a fascinating insight into the early days of the Hudson Bay Company, its trading and ways of life. Head out of Winnipeg to Riding Mountain National Park and see a bit of the prairie as well as bear and bison. Black Bears at Riding Mountain Guest Ranch Spring and Summer To the west of Winnipeg, this is a haven for wildlife. Black bears can be watched from blinds but you can also see elk, moose, prairie bison, beaver and over 260 species of birds. Horse riding is available, or you can explore by foot or canoe.
