Polar Bears at Churchill
At Churchill there are many ways to see polar bears, usually involving a tundra buggy, which is like a large bus on enormous wheels, with picture windows, a washroom and a viewing platform at the back. Sleep in a hotel and take day trips onto the tundra, or for an even more unforgettable experience, sleep out on the ice in the Tundra Buggy Lodge; a combination of five buggies, providing accommodation and facilities interspersed with viewing platforms.Escorted tours provide a more personal way to see the bears, sometimes including time across the river from Churchill in one of the lodges. These tours are more expensive, but worth the money with their highly personalized service. The best time to see these majestic animals is from mid October - mid November.

Fly on the special Day Tripper' from Winnipeg to Churchill early on Saturday morning. Transfer straight to the Tundra Buggy for a full day's viewing. Return to Churchill at dusk for dinner and explore the town before departing for Winnipeg at 8:00pm. The Adventurer Tour' includes 2 or 3 nights in either hotel or Tundra Buggy Lodge. The Enthusiast Tour' is longer, includes dog-sledding and can combine time at the Lodge with time in Churchill. The Escorted' is a guided 4-night hotel based guided tour with 2 buggy trips, plus a Churchill sightseeing tour. The Specialist' tour is designed for photographers and naturalists; either lodge or town based, with an experienced photographer or naturalist accompanying the group. Fewer people in the Buggy allows for more space for photography. Prices: range from £1552 to £4366 per person depending on length of stay and level of interest.
