Fly-drive Itineraries British Columbia
Wildlife Extravaganza 15 nights
Wildlife abounds in Canada and sometimes you are lucky and see animals as you drive however, this itinerary takes you to some very special places where you are almost guaranteed to see a great variety. We say almost because nothing is guaranteed except in the zoo! Whatever wildlife you see, you will see some wonderful scenery and drive some fabulous empty roads. NB need to fit in with operating dates for ferry. Day 1 Arrival in Vancouver Transfer to your downtown hotel for the next 3 nights. Century Plaza/Pacific Palisades/Four Seasons Day 2 Vancouver A day to explore the city; perhaps take the hop-on/hop-off trolley bus tour, stretch your legs in Stanley Park or visit Gastown and the Dr. SunYat-Sen gardens. Day 3 Vancouver Another day in Vancouver or take an optional day trip to Victoria where as well as having time to get a taste of British Columbia's capital city you can either visit the famous Butchart Gardens or take a whale-watching boat for almost guaranteed sightings of orca. Included in your day will be a float plane and a ferry ride. Day 4 Vancouver to Port Mcneill (424 Kms Plus 95 Minute Ferry) Day 6 Grizzly Bears A full day trip by boat across to Knight Inlet. You should see the bears as they search the shore line for crabs and other tasty morsels plus if you are lucky some orca and bald eagles on the way. During the fall salmon run, you will be able to see the bears fishing as they stock up on this vital food for their winter hibernation. Day 7 Port Mcneill To Bella Coola (30 Kms Plus 11 Hours Ferry)

Collect your 4x4 (not included) and drive through North Vancouver to Horseshoe Bay where you will take the ferry to Vancouver Island. You will follow the Island highways north to Port Mcneill where you will stay for 3 nights. Hidden Cove Lodge Day 5 Orca A wonderful morning or afternoon excursion whalewatching from Telegraph Cove. From July to September you are almost guaranteed to see and, using a hydrophone, hear lots of killer whales.

Brockton Inn/Tweedsmuir Lodge Day 8 Tweedsmuir Operating June 15 October 15 The Grizzly Bear Watching & Wildlife Viewing Trips encompass both Talchako and Atnarko rivers as you drift in comfortable rigid bottom dories or expedition rafts. Silently floating down the river you have the opportunity to observe British Columbia's wildlife in pristine habitat without disrupting the animal's natural behaviour. Day 9 Tweedsmuir Nimpo Lake (133km) You will leave the coastal plain and drive the hill, an unpaved road up the escarpment and onto the plateau. It is a beautiful drive along Highway 20 with very little traffic and wonderful scenery, ending with 2 nights of luxury, and time to recharge the batteries and relax for 24 hours. Dean on Nimpo Day 11 Nimpo Lake Williams Lake (300 Kms) An easy drive today as you cross the undulating countryside watching out for wildlife as you pass the ranches and small townships to overnight in Williams Lake. Sandman Inn & Suites Day 12 Williams Lake Pyna-Tee-Ah Lodge You will need to arrive at the lodge by 1200 for your 2-night stay. see page 50 PynaTee-Ah Lodge
Day 14 Pyna-Tee-Ah Lodge Whistler (400 Kms) After breakfast, you will leave for another beautiful drive as you head south first through ranching country and then west past glorious lakes and rushing rivers as you drive to the world famous mountain resort of Whistler where you will stay for 2 nights. Delta Whistler Village Resort/Westin Resort and Spa/Fairmont Chateau Whistler Day 15 Whistler A day free to enjoy the many activities available in Whistler, including perhaps, if your appetite for bears is not fulfilled, a few hours with Michael Allen the local bear specialist featured on the BBC programme Big Bear Week. Day 16 Whistler Vancouver (135 Kms) An afternoon drive down the spectacular Sea to Sky Highway will bring you back to Vancouver where you will return your car to the airport before your flight. Possible extension: Knight Inlet Lodge, Great Bear Adventures or Orca Camp. Chilcotin Holidays Grizzly viewing. Price includes: 15 nights accommodation, tax, Day trip to Victoria, full day bear watch and a 3 hour whale watch in Telegraph Cove, ferry to Bella Coola. Car Hire not included.
