In between you will find island paradises, ranches, quiet country roads leading to luxurious resorts, ski resorts which in summer become outdoor playgrounds with spectacular golf courses, mountain bike parks and much more. You will also find friendly people, open roads, clean and efficient ferries and a wealth of things to enjoy. The main cities are Vancouver and Victoria and this is where we will start our peregrination. Alberta Home of the Canadian Rockies, Alberta is full of the most improbably coloured lakes, pristine mountains and hosts the Calgary Stampede every July. Beyond all those highlights you will find First Nation sites such as Head Smashed-in Buffalo Jump, acres of rolling countryside where cattle roam, the badlands where so many dinosaur remains have been found, the wonderful Royal Tyrrell Museum of Palaeontology at Drumheller plus the miles of open road leading to the prairies, Great Slave Lake, the Yukon and beyond. Manitoba Neither east or west, but centre and included here because with its ranches and wildlife, it fits better with western concepts and ideals. Winnipeg is a beautiful city sitting at confluence of the Assiniboine River and the Red River, famous amongst other things for its ballet company and the formation of the Hudson Bay Company. It is also the jumping off point for most of the polar bear viewing adventures. www.frontier-canada.co.uk F 27
