FrontierCanada52-75 western:FC_52-75_western_v 4/1/08 15:27 Page 62 Jasper Linked with Lake Louise by the awesome Icefield Parkway, one of the most beautiful drives in the world; you will pass the Columbia icefields, Peyto Lake and the Athabasca Glacier, Jasper is a delightful small town. Set in the centre of Jasper National Park you will be able to wander the streets surrounded by spectacular mountain scenery. Be sure to take the cruise on Maligne Lake to see the much photographed Spirit Island and the Jasper Tramway for incredible views over the Rocky Mountains. Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge Location: Just outside town, spread over a large area around Lac Beauvert. Description: Accommodation is arranged in pretty cedar chalets, log cabins and spacious lodge rooms with huge picture windows. The decoration is attractive giving a great feeling of light. The lodge houses the health club, spa and a number of restaurants. With an outdoor pool, huge sun decks, bicycles and boats available for rent; fishing, horse-riding, golf, spa, hiking and canoeing there is something for everyone. Why we like it: Fairmont quality with a difference. Alpine Village Location: On the outskirts of Jasper by the Athabasca River. Description: Beautiful log built cabins open April-October. Large hot tub in the spacious grounds. Accommodation: Ranges from one room cabins to spacious 1-bedroom and sitting room cabins all with kitchens and private bbqs on the deck. Why we like it: The perfect Canadian wood cabin we all dream about. NB. Bookings cannot be confirmed until January Tekarra Lodge Location: In amongst pine trees, overlooking the Athabasca River, on the outskirts of Jasper. Description: Quaint and rustic cabins in a forest setting with a good restaurant. Accommodation: A variety of shapes and sizes, the cabins mostly have fireplaces and veranda, bath or shower rooms, living areas and kitchen facilities. They are not spacious but do have a charm of their own. Many beds are in curtained alcoves. Why we like it: A feel of the Rockies. Coast Pyramid Lake Resort Location: Isolated position, 3 miles from Jasper, on Pyramid Lake. Description: 62-rooms and suites with Pines, an elegant restaurant created from rich wood and natural stone. There are patio and barbeque areas, fitness facilities and 10-person outdoor hot tub. Accommodation: A variety of rooms ranging from the simple Pyramid rooms with 1 queen bed with a sofa bed to the comfortable Whistler suites with a queen or 2 twin beds plus a kitchen, sitting room with sofa bed and the Tekarra Loft Suites which has an extra loft again with 1 queen or 2 twin beds.
