Fernie Island Lake Lodge
Location: Set among 7,000 acres of protected forests, mountains, lakes and streams, near Fernie. Description: This collection of four secluded logbuilt lodges have something for both adventure enthusiasts and family explorers. From interpretive hikes through ancient fir and cedar forests, to horseback riding, guided alpine hikes atop of the Canadian Rockies and fly-fishing, the experiences at Island Lake Lodge last a lifetime. The spa offers a variety of massages and beauty therapies. Chose from the original accommodation at the main lodge with shared bathrooms, the newer Red Eagle Lodge for more privacy or the luxury of The Cedar. Full Board. Why we like it: Seclusion and indulgence in a pristine wilderness.
Three Bars Ranch
Location: BC Rockies near Cranbrook. Description: A splendid working cattle ranch for a first class family holiday, offering beautiful facilities and great food. Ride to your heart's content, explore trails led by wranglers through the woods, crisscross the plateau or wander along a riverbank. Accommodation is in comfortable log duplex cabins. The optional kid's program, for children from 7 to 12 years of age, focuses on horses and the outdoors. During July and August the wranglers organize riding, hiking, swimming, art projects, face painting etc. Children may trail ride with organized kid's rides or join the family. They eat with the adults at breakfast and lunch, with optional kid's menu in the evening. (Children under 7 are welcome but will not be cared for by ranch staff.) Prices: 7 night package - £895 per person including Full Board and Guided horse back riding daily (25 May to 27 Jun & 1 to 14 Sep) - £1048 per person (28 Jun to 31 Aug) Children under 12 - £929 per person (25 May to 27 Jun & 1 to 14 Sep) - £822 per person (28 Jun to 31 Aug). Riding Ability: Suits all levels of rider .Indoor riding arena. Age limit: Ideally 8+. Free Activities: All riding, unguided fly fishing, white water rafting (high season only). Bocce ball, Volley ball, guided hikes, mountain bikes, swimming pool, tennis court. Paid for activities: Massages, guided fly fishing. Clay pigeon shooting and use of the nearby 18 hole golf courses. Lizard Creek Lodge & Condos
Location: At the foot of the mountain, in Fernie Alpine Resort. Description: This gorgeous property is only minutes away from golfing, tennis, mountain biking, hiking, fishing and more and has some of the largest condo units in Canada, all with private balcony. The main lodge houses the splendid dining room, a spa offering aromatherapy, hydrotherapy and massage and exercise room, and there is a heated outdoor swimming pool and hot tub. An enormous range of activities can be billed to your room. Why we like it: Luxurious accommodation with spectacular views.

Cross River Cabins
Location: About 20 minutes from the Radium Hot Springs, one hour south west of Banff. Description: Eight rustic and individually decorated log-built cabins with private toilet and washbasin overlook a small stream and beautiful mountains. A main lodge houses private showers, 10-man outdoor hot tub, large kitchen, dining area and living room. The fully equipped kitchen is complemented by an outdoor barbeque area. Bring your own food and cook with your fellow visitors. Heat and light are solar and hydro-powered. Why we like it: The perfect rendition of I want a cabin in the wilderness.
Explore Calgary and eat at Ranchman's Restaurant, Jack & Lureen's bar in the film Day 3 Pick up your 4x4 and head down The Cowboy Trail along the foothills of the Rocky Mountains. Stop to visit the quaint little town of Cowley where the film opens. Overnight Waterton Lakes Lodge. Day 4 After a short drive, you arrive at a working ranch to prepare for your 2-day pack trip. Head for the high country, where you'll ride across open meadows and meander through silent shady pine forests. Stay overnight at a private wilderness base camp with cabins, cedar hot tub and outdoor showers. Day 5 After a day of riding, return to the ranch and then off to another Brokeback Mountain cast favourite, the Red Coat Inn Motel in Fort Macleod for 2 nights. Day 6 Stop in at The Java Shop for breakfast then spend the rest of your day exploring film locations and other local attractions. Finish your day at the Queen's Hotel (Cassie's Bar). Day 7 Just west of Fort Macleod, at a place where the foothills of the Rocky Mountains meet the great plains, is one of the world's oldest, largest and best preserved buffalo jumps. HeadSmashed-In has been used continuously by aboriginal peoples for more than 5,500 years. Overnight, Fairmont Palliser Hotel Calgary. This trip can be continued on to Kananaskis and Banff. Basic Package: 6 Nights/7 Days. Departure dates: May 19 to June 15: £815 June 16 to September 3: £925 plus taxes. Price includes: Accommodation as specified, all requirements on the pack horse trip.
