Rimrock Resort
Location: On Mountain Avenue, near the Hotsprings. Amenities: Large welcoming lobby, 2 restaurants, swimming pool, health club/spa with sauna and steam and squash court. Accommodation: The large superior rooms have 2 double beds. The deluxe rooms include added luxuries, such as bathrobes; the premium rooms have the luxuries plus the best views. The Grand View rooms also have VIP check-in and upgraded turn-down service. Frontier's view: an excellent hotel with a high level of comfort and service. Buffalo Mountain Lodge
Location: On Tunnel Mountain Road above Banff. Amenities: Outdoor hot tub, exercise room, steam room, 2 restaurants, Sleeping Buffalo and the Cilantro's bistro (open seasonally) both have excellent selection of Canadian wines and game. Accommodation: 108 bedrooms with wood burning fireplaces and either a balcony or patio. The deluxe rooms have 1 queen or 2 double beds and the gorgeous premier queen or king-bedded rooms have heated slate floor and claw bathtubs. NB: There is a compulsory New Year's Eve/Day dinner/brunch for £100. Frontier's view: Love the timber post & beam construction and its `Canadian' atmosphere. Offers: 7th night free (NOT Dec 21-31). The Fairmont Banff Springs
Location: On Spray Avenue above the town of Banff. Amenities: A huge variety of shops, restaurants and entertainment including a sushi bar and wine store, swimming pool, fitness centre ($25 per stay) hot tubs, a 5-pin bowling alley and wine bar and The Willow Spa (reservations recommended). Accommodation: 770 bedrooms; the Fairmont rooms are quite compact but good for a couple, whereas the slightly larger Fairmont Deluxe rooms have 2 queen-size beds and the spacious Junior Suites have a king bed and living area (some with sofa bed) and are better for families.
