Frontier Ski Hidden Gems Photo Credit: Revelstoke Mountain Resort more information is available from our knowledgeable staff in the office or on our website, www.frontier-ski.co.uk Kimberley, British Columbia In the gorgeous Purcell Range of the Canadian Rockies, Kimberley Alpine Resort provides a laid-back and friendly atmosphere. With 80 runs to choose from that range from beginner through expert, a 751m vertical drop, 5 lifts and ski-in/ski-out accommodation, Kimberley is an excellent family resort with a good snow record. Frontier recommends a few days here as part of a longer ski-safari but if you dont want a driving holiday, we suggest flying to Cranbrook airport as it is a 5-hour transfer from Calgary. Whitewater, B.C. Powder Magazine calls Whitewater, "One of the best powder mountains on the continent." and we agree. Strategically placed between Red and Fernie, we would suggest spending 2 days exploring the bowls of Whitewater. It has 1180 skiable acres, 40% of which are advanced terrain, a vertical drop of 396 m and 13.7 m of snow but the statistics belie the amount of fun to be had on this funky mountain. Ask us about the cat- and heli-skiing opportunities in the area: there are lots to choose from in the area. Apex Mountain Resort, British Columbia Between Big White and Red, Apex has ski-in/ski-out accommodation, the perfect mix between large amounts of precipitation and low humidity that makes for 615 cms of the lightest champagne powder snow imaginable, awesome terrain (36% expert) from the smoothest of cruisers to the steepest of chutes: consider adding a few days to your Big White holiday. Red Mountain, British Columbia Named by Forbes Magazine as one of the top 10 resorts in North America, Red is a mecca for powder hounds. The resort consists of 2 big mountains and more than 1685 skiable acres (plus 2,500 acres of easy to access backcountry) of 87 runs, steep, powder filled glades and wide open groomers. Accommodation is largely in extremely comfortable condominiums at the base of the mountain which is about 10 minutes drive from the town. Access is by air to Castlegar, Trail and Kelowna and by car from Fernie, Kimberley and Big White if you are a good skier and like powder this resort is certainly for you. Cat skiing is available in resort and heli-skiing is nearby; ask us for details. www.frontier-ski.co.uk F 49
