Hidden Gems Frontier Ski Hidden Gems Great destinations. What about the less famous places which don't tend to feature in brochures? Here's a taster much Québec City, Québec One of the ski circuit's more unusual destinations! Three excellent ski hills within a short distance of a delightfull, cosmopolitan city. With a cornucopia of restaurants and shops, not to mention dogsledding and snowmobiling, on your doorstep and the Ice Hotel just down the road; Québec City has a winter experience for everyone. Ski-in/out accommodation is available at Chateau Mont-Ste-Anne. Valdez and Alyeska Resort, Alaska Valdez is known for its phenomenal heli- and cat-skiing. Alyeska, an extraordinary resort, almost at sea level yet an average snowfall of 784 inches! The skiing is excellent with exciting bowls plus dog sledding/snowmobiling and Heli-skiing on the doorstep. You can also take a glacierwatching cruise and see the Northern lights! Mount Washington, B.C. The 3rd most visited ski resort in British Columbia. An extraordinary statistic for this small mountain. The reason is the location and the snow! An average 9 metres falls on Mount Washington which has a vertical drop of over 480 metres. It is easy to get to with flights from Vancouver to nearby Comox airport on Vancouver island or you can take the ferry and drive. You can combine your skiing with a round of golf and some whale watching not many mountains can boast that! An excellent and highly recommended family resort! Revelstoke Mountain Resort, British Columbia The hot ticket! The journalists raved about Revelstoke last season and when we visited this spring, we had to agree it is astonishing! The skiing and riding are amazing around 35 minutes, if you are fit enough to ski without stopping to admire the view, from top to bottom of steep, powder filled bowls, trees and bumps galore. 1829 metres of challenging terrain, the longest lift-serviced vertical descent in North America, is complemented by heli-skiing and cat-skiing from the base. Development of the village at the base is beginning and there should be 59 suites completed in the Nelsen Lodge by December, however, in case of delays, we recommend you stay in Revelstoke town. We suggest the Coast Hillside Hotel, the Glacier House Resort (which also offers snowmobiling) and in the centre of the town, the Regent Inn. Currently, there are no scheduled transfers however Revelstoke is a reasonably easy drive with a 4x4 from Banff, Kicking Horse, Sun Peaks or Big White. We recommend at least 4 nights in the resort. 48 F To book call 020 8776 8709
