On piste
Just five minutes drive from central Banff, Mount Norquay offers some enjoyable skiing, from tree lined blue trails to more adventurous black diamond terrain. The area also offers night skiing on Fridays. With its renowned natural snowfall and diverse terrain, Sunshine Village, is a true gem. Lying 25 minutes from Banff, Sunshines three peaks offer something for all standards. The slopes of Mount Standish and Lookout Mountain have everything from novice trails to tough double-blacks, with the third mountain, Goats Eye, giving more advanced skiers plenty to think about. Experts are drawn towards Delirium Dive and the Wild West areas, both of which can only be accessed with safety equipment. A regular on the World Cup circuit, Lake Louise is the largest of the three ski areas. The slopes lie a few minutes from Lake Louise village and 45 minutes from Banff. The Frontside has some fantastic cruising, along with several advanced trails and glades, as well as an excellent terrain park. Experts will head towards the treasure trove of black diamonds in The Powder Bowls. The glades below the Ptarmigan chair are breathtaking. The treelined slopes of the Larch area are gentler, but none the less inviting. Add to all this the stunning views and you have a notto-be-missed ski area. transfers by luxury SUV (see page 7) and you can upgrade to a private transfer for £47 per person or £65 per person for a private SUV transfer. The ski buses are regular and reliable, picking up from, or very near, all our hotels and the service comes free with your Tri-Area lift pass.
Ski school
Individual ski schools on each mountain offer child and adult group lessons, multi-day packages, and private tuition. Please ask us for the complete list or visit the website. Highly recommended are CLUB SKI and CLUB SNOWBOARD, 3-day, 3-mountain exploration programmes that include 4.5 hours instruction per day and lunch. You will ski/ride with the same instructor as part of a group (up to 9 people). Programmes start on Sundays and Thursdays. Participants enjoy lift line priority, group photo, fun race and optional wind-up dinner with presentation of video. Available for children and adults, from beginners to experts. Prices start from £134 if pre-booked through Frontier Ski.
Lift passes
Up to 4 children under 12 ski free when one 6-day related adult pass is purchased in the UK. Excluding Dec 22-Jan 6. Book before September 30 and get 2 extra days FREE (minimum 6 days purchase). For more free days skiing, please see our website or phone us for details.
Off piste
Snowmobiling, heli-skiing and dog-sledding have to take place outside the National Park, but transfers from Banff/Lake Louise are available for these exciting activities. Dont miss the walking trails around and do take the Banff Gondola to see spellbinding scenery or perhaps enjoy a wildlife viewing excursion. Alternatively end the day at the natural hot springs soaking tired muscles. Ice walking in the canyons, snowshoeing and sleigh rides are other wonderful ways to enjoy the Canadian winter and an evening trip to see the Calgary Flames play ice hockey at the Saddledome in Calgary is definitely one to remember.
Rental
You can collect your rentals in Banff, Sunshine or Lake Louise. They all have different rates and policies. In Banff, up to 2 children under 13 per family rent free (including helmets) except Dec 17-Jan 4. Rentals: Basic Adult Ski Set from £13.50 per day.
Transport
Banff is 1.5 hours drive from Calgary Airport, and Lake Louise takes an extra 45 minutes. Although not essential, a car can be useful. Please see page 6 for car hire prices, and be aware that some hotels charge for parking. Scheduled transfers operate between Calgary Airport and all the Banff and Lake Louise hotels.
