Day 1/Delhi Our trip starts today in Delhi. No activities are planned, so you can arrive at any time. Days 2-3/Jaipur Our first stop is Jaipur, the vibrant capital of the state of Rajasthan. We visit the stunning medieval Amber Fort and there is also time to explore the Old City, the beautiful Palace of the Winds and the Johari Jewellery Bazaar. Days -5/Agra - Taj Mahal We drive to Agra, home of the magnificent Taj Mahal perhaps the worlds greatest monument to love. It was built in the 17th century by the Emperor Shah Jahan in memory of his second wife. We have plenty of time to visit this awe-inspiring mausoleum and also have the option of visiting Agra Fort. Days -7/Orchha - Khajuraho We travel to Orchha and we spend a few hours exploring the temples and palaces of this beautiful oasis before heading to Khajuraho. The temples at Khajuraho are brilliant examples of medieval Indian architecture, famous for their Kamasutra-style collection of erotic stone carvings. We spend the day exploring these exotic temples and chilling out in this very pleasant and laid-back town. Days 8-9/Varanasi In the morning we drive to Satna and board our train to Varanasi, arriving in the late afternoon. Sprawled along the banks of the Ganges, Varanasi is the oldest and holiest city in India and is visited by millions of pilgrims every year. On an early morning boat ride we watch life along the river as people pray, wash and cremate their dead. It is a confronting, moving and intimate insight into life and death in this amazing city. Day 10/Sonauli - Nepal We depart Varanasi early for the drive to the Nepalese border. Travelling in a private bus makes our journey more comfortable. We head north across the plains of northern India and reach the border in the early afternoon. After the necessary formalities we travel the short distance to our hotel at Sonauli. Days 11-12/Royal Chitwan National Park A side trip to Lumbini, the birthplace of Lord Buddha, is followed by the drive east across the lowlands of Nepal to Royal Chitwan National Park. Our lodge in the village of Sahaura is located on the banks of the Rapti River. The following day we explore the jungle on elephant back and the river by dugout canoes in search of exotic wildlife, including rhino and the elusive tiger. Days 13-1/Kathmandu We enjoy a final early morning adventure in Chitwan before taking the bus to Kathmandu, nestled at the foot of the mighty Himalaya. The following day we visit the giant Buddhist stupa at Bodhnath, as well as the citys most sacred Hindu site, Pashupatinath, on the banks of the holy Bagmati River. There is also plenty of time to chill out in the popular cafes and restaurants close to our hotel in Thamel. Day 15/Kathmandu Our trip ends this morning. We recommend you spend additional nights in Kathmandu for further sightseeing or perhaps book a Himalayan trekking adventure.
